I've been doing a few extra workouts of my face palm muscles because I'm expecting to have to use them excessively next session. I never cease to be amazed by the stupid. The stupid and the lies.  >:(

My suggestion is everyone who can, start preparing to move out of Hawaii.  I love the islands and the people, except the ones that run this state is forcing me out.  Just like it is impossible to stay in a burning building, have to take the jump out of the window.

Hawaii Firearms Coalition has been prepping since September for the January legislative session.  Still an overwhelming amount of work to do before then so helpout if you can.

On the bright side Republicans were getting 20-30% of the vote in most locations. It may be a blue state but that's still quite a lot of people in the minority. I am curious how it compares with previous elections.

Hawaii is a losing battle, but in DC we got chance still.  Assault Weapons Ban 2017 didn't go anywhere.

But here, we lost bump stocks.  Don't own that novelty item, but it's the principal of the manner.

I suspect washington's 1693 will come here.
- 21 year old to buy a rifle
- mandatory gun storage or felony (until scotus reminds them of the Heller decision in 8-10 years if someone can afford the lawsuit).  Felony for you if someone steels the gun and uses it in a crime
- yearly background checks to keep your guns
- extended waiting periods
- training to purchase a semi-auto anything
- extended background checks (what ever those are)
- added fees to pay for all of it.

Since lawmakers dont write their laws, they will most likely copy and paste from something like this.

Funny, when I got to the Big Island one of the first things I heard (not about firearms, but applicable) was "Dont worry, the laws are just suggestions here"

given the types of things that I've heard go on and the types of firearms that people may or may not have, I think that the locals take that saying to heart.   :D

I won’t move from here either even though I considered it many times....
What I will do is continue to be a royal pain in the ass to 95% of the Democrats here from crazy Mazie on down....

And crazy Mazie won.  Wish I would bump into her and ask her how all women must be believed.

And she won with the highest percentage of votes and the largest margin of victory of any senate race in the United States.

Yeah, ask her about why she never believed any of the TEN women who claimed Hirono's mentor senator Daniel Akaka either raped them or sexually assaulted them. Never so much as a peep from Hirono. I say, "Hirono, shut up and stand up and do the right thing for a change. Resign after you call out Akaka for being a rapist, about which you knew and remained silent all these many years."

But that's just me.

The way the system works is no democrat can be guilty of rape or harassment or abuse.  Only republicans can.

I applaud what you are doing, but I am a lot older than you and may not have the 10-15 years (if ever) to see things change.
The way I see it, Hawaii will never allow citizens to carry unless forced to by SCOTUS.  At that time I can easily move back, since I plan to rent furnished homes only and live out of a suitcase.  Clothing, guns and a car will be the only things I will own on the mainland as I want to explore and live in different states 1 to 2 months at a time.   Longer if I like the area.

I love this place and as you know I had big plans to retire to the BI. And while my plans have changed due to my wife’s condition, I think this latest thing where the C&C decided to use property taxes to pay for the rail is the straw that has broken the camel’s back for me. This is a terrible decision that will probably bring about raising property taxes a lot over a long period of time and possibly bankrupting Honolulu. The rail will probably go the same way as our streets and will eventually suffer from lack of upkeep. And eventually people will get hurt.

While my plans already changed, and I will move when I retire, I still have one scenario where I can stay here on Oahu if I choose to do so. Though it involves still having a mortgage and it will strap me financially, I can still do it. This disastrous property tax decision would have convinced me to move away from Hawaii if I had not already decided to do so. Part of the attractiveness to us soon to be retirees is the low property taxes here. There are other things as well but this new ability to raise property taxes is it for me. I would rather move on my schedule than when the property taxes get so high I am forced to. If you live on the Big Island, your property taxes will remain low for a while longer. But as money gets tight for running and maintaining the rail more and more the politicians will look to raise property taxes on the other islands. The politicians have lied from the beginning about the reality of the rail system. They promised to never use property taxes to pay for it. And they promised to not raise and use property taxes from the outer islands. It’s only a matter of time before property taxes on the outer islands will be raised and used to pay for the rail. Sad

Two days of "recess" in the first seven working days. Sounds about right.

The only real improvement I could see there would be to have recess for every single day of the entire session. That might lessen the damage done. But they'd figure out some way to fuck us over anyway.

Imagine if you had a business and gave your employees that much time off like their calendar shows.
You would accomplish little and waste lots of money.  Exactly what our legislators are doing.

Or where they make the rules on their benefits, how much they get paid, how much budget they are allowed for staffers, etc.   >:(
