Found this one interesting.
To be fair I don't think this should be taken as liberals just pandering to minorities rather it could be any number of conscious and subconscious factors that go into how people communicate to outside groups. It is however interesting to see how liberals and conservatives have style difference in communication. I wouldn't really consider this difference good or bad, just something interesting to note.

I realize your knowledge base starts and stops with Google and the Main Stream Media, but ...
Decades ago, it was shown through studies, when races were put in a situation and required to interact, the Whites in the group would adopt the speech and conversation patterns of the the Blacks in the group in a very short time. Never was the opposite observed. Other races, like Asians, exhibited no such "communication adaptation" that Whites exhibited, but the study focused mostly on Whites and Blacks.
There are many reasons as to the cause of such behavior. Back then, it was hypothesized Whites try to assimilate into the groups they want to be part of. Whatever the reasons, this is not a new concept.
Do some more research (Googling).....

Here in Hawaii the whites attempted to eradicate the Hawaiian language and culture by prohibiting it in schools.
My mom was born in 1921 and when I asked her why she did not speak Hawaiian like my grandmother, she told me it was not allowed in schools and discouraged from being used elsewhere. In fact, she spoke perfect proper English...not a hint of pidgin English.
This is why the current resurgence of olelo Hawaii is such an important and celebrated movement. It is the rebirth of a language and cultural pride nearly extinguished by Western civilization.

In my work, I talk to many different people. When I come in contact with someone who speaks pidgin regardless of race, and I speak good English, I noticed a wall was put up. So when I slid in some pidgin here and there, the wall came down and they became more trusting and open.
I did notice certain words that Chinese understood better than others. Like when asking "do you want your balance?". There was a puzzled look. But when I said just "total", then got an immediate yes.

There's a MAJOR difference between individuals interacting with others in a given situation and a concerted government effort to guide (force?) assimilation of people with different languages and cultures.

I didn’t know that. Thanks for enlightening me.
I do know that pidgin is discouraged in school. At least that what I have been told. Let me know if I am misinformed. I have always thought that Hawaiian was taught and encouraged so I am obviously thought wrong all these years.

The history of how English was taught in our public schools (and the politics involved) is quite interesting:

A couple of thoughts.
Professionally I was taught to speak in a manner that the target audience understands or at their level of acceptance coming from a perceived outsider. Place yourself on level ground so to speak with your choice of words, but not necessarily mimicking the local dialect. Take care that you do not talk above the target audience with words that are not in general usage within that target group as that may come across as condescending or make the audience feel inept and cause offense. Also do not attempt to mimic the tonality or inflection of the slang either as that can be equally offensive if not done well. There is a balance here and it is tricky. We know this as a simple example of people from the mainland speaking pidgeon. It depends on the delivery, some pull it off, most don't.

Hawaiian language, dress, and cultural practices were highly shunned. Take away language and that is the first step and best way to begin to defeat a people. I am Native Hawaiian. My company is Native Hawaiian. I have Homestead in my name. I was a military kid, and while I spent every summer living on homestead I went to school on the mainland. I relate far more as a Hawaiian than anything else. I am not fluent in Hawaiian but I have a much greater understanding of the language that most, and while I understand all forms of pideon on local dialects, I don't normally speak that way.
Having said that, my son is 100% born and raised on homestead. He attends Kamehameha Kapalama, but you will hear very little pidgeon at Kamehameha and to my dismay, Kamehameha has IMO willfully neglected to dedicate enough time towards native Hawaiian studies. I have been forefront about this for quite some time with the school and things are changing, but to my frustration change has been much slower than I feel is appropriate.

Step 1 change language
Step 2 change religion

I don't think there was a concerted government plot to eradicate Hawaiian Culture. It just worked out that way.
As far as assimilation goes, I think the driving factor is money. If there is financial advantage to learning to speak a foreign tongue then people will assimilate.
I don't think there was significant financial gain in learning Hawaiian so it was considered unnecessary and hampered western progress.
A good example would be my Grandfather who was pure Chinese. He ran a general store back in the 30's and was trilingual so he could sell stuff to anyone.
Though he was raised in China, he spoke English and fluent Hawaiian in order to communicate with the paniolo. It was so awesome to see that little Chinese man
speaking fluent Hawaiian.

Maybe you should read the article before you climb on your high horse, that way you don't have to tell me what your foot tastes like. This isn't even an issue about someone doing more research, you are just saying this because you like to pretend you are smarter than everyone and troll certain individuals who dare disagree with you. Maybe try viagra instead of trolling to get your hard ons.
The interesting point of the story is the difference between white liberals and white conservatives.

I too have found this to be the case. I turn the pidgin on and off depending on who I am talking to. If speaking to someone who obviously speaks English as a second language I slow down my speech and choose words that are more simple/common so as to better communicate.

The point of the story was racial behavior. Political affiliation has zero to do with it.
But, since you found the most insignificant "point" in the story "interesting", it's likely based on your continuous efforts to create divisiveness here.
Race, religion, politics, firearm tactics -- anything that can lead to arguments is "interesting" to you.

I don't want to get between the SnowFlapp (aka Moosed aka Darmok aka I can't remember the other name) and EEF love fest but:
Political affiliation has zero to do with it.
If political view has nothing to do with it, why is the title of thread : White liberals "dumb" themselves down when speaking to black people.

Because the opinion of the Yale professors is based on what they admit is “preliminary evidence.”
If YOU read the article, it says, "In tracking the word choices made by white Republican and Democratic presidential candidates before white and black voters, her sample size was limited primarily by “the number of speeches in which Republican presidential candidates showed up for black audiences,” she said. The race of the audience was approximated by setting, at a black church for example, and by occasion, say the 40th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s death.
What she found, by performing online text analysis of 74 campaign speeches over the past 25 years, was that white candidates who were Democrats used significantly fewer words about “agency or power” and more about “affiliation and communality” when addressing minority voters. There was no significant difference exhibited by Republican candidates."
So, they can not extrapolate their findings based on public addresses of candidates and assign them to two entire groups of people: Liberals and Conservatives. Hell, there are Liberal Republicans and Conservative Liberals. Even the labels they chose are not set in stone.
My comment stands. This is not new, and the findings are skewed by Yale researchers looking for a political "slant" to their hypothesis. Why else would they only study political candidates?
Junk science at its best.

Political ideology had everything to do with it. The noted difference was in how liberals vs conservatives spoke to a certain crowd. Did you even read the article?
How about you let the rest of us discuss the results of the study in peace instead of going full Flapp here.
What do you think the political forum is for? No one dar say anything divisive (you never have a problem when its you) and instead we must sit around agreeing on everything? There was nothing divisive in my post, it started when you came here to troll.

I don't think YOU read the article.
They used political candidates' speeches to base their hypothesis on. Sorry to tell you, but politicians are not the end-all-be-all representative of Liberals and Conservatives. Then they did some unscientific "tests" to see how test subjects interact with other races and labeled them based on "Conservative" vs. "Liberal" questionnaires.
The only troll here is you. You posted a fake study from some Yale professors that -- even in their own words -- prove nothing. In fact, they tried to spin the results as "Liberals talk down to Blacks to try and affiliate with them because they care more than Conservatives." Really? How about because Liberals are more racist and believe the negative stereo types they spread about Blacks, just like the voter ID racism they spread.

Just let me know when you are done trolling and the adults can get back to discussion.

Why would I let you know anything that applies to adults?
