Movie was made in 1984, but filming started at least 1-2 years prior. The scene where Arnold buys the Uzi from the shelf (before asking for plasma rifle). So was this possible in CA prior to the 86 full auto ban?
Also that laser on the 1911 was fricken huge.
Makes you wonder if this movie was motivation to banning full auto. Terminator shoots up the police station.

Wasn't the full auto thing from the Tommy Gun gangsta days? NFA in 1934.
Congress found these firearms to pose a significant crime problem because of their frequent use in crime, particularly the gangland crimes of that era such as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

1934: machine guns (and other weapons/items) were added to an NFA list, requiring the buyer pay a $200 tax -- basically a prohibitive tax at the time for most legit buyers, but it provided control via approval/rejection for the ATF.
1986: Firearm Owners' Protection Act (FOPA) of 1986 made production and importation of new machine guns illegal. That limited the supply to only weapons produced prior to the date of the act.
1989: California's Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989 (AWCA) made illegal the ownership and transfer of over fifty specific brands and models of semi-automatic firearms classified as assault weapons. While mostly rifles, some were pistols and shotguns. This was the first time in US legislation the term "assault weapon" was formally defined.
So, in 1984, the only restriction on the Uzi would have been an NFA application.

Thanks for clarifying. I had assumed CMO was asking about reason why full auto was first restricted. I would hope that regulation of anything would be due to a movie, but who knows these days.

As a novelty, I recently created a Phased Plasma Rifle product on our webstore. I had just watched the movie for the millionth time and thought it'd be fun to add the product to our otherwise legit store.

I have some questions about Hawaii gun regulations since I have sent quite a few orders to the islands and thought it was a pretty restrictive environment - gunwise - but possibly I was wrong on that.
I'll find the appropriate forum to ask those questions though.
