I have a friend who runs a home FFL back in oregon. He had a deal on 14,500 rounds of 223 for free shipping.
So I asked him for a freight quote to the Big Island. It came out to about $0.40 a round total cost (500 lbs of ammo for ~$1000 shipping). It was a little much for me for a total cost but he is going to look into a freight charge if we wanted to put together a group buy occasionally.
Would anyone want to go in together on a group buy for ammo to the big island?
What do you think is a reasonable price per round for the common stuff (9mm, .223, etc)
On a side note, his online store is
https://www.luckysportinggoods.com/
I've bought some sporting good stuff from here and he was very helpful to get the best shipping price

How much does 223 cost normally on the BI?
On Oahu, you can get it for $0.32-$0.36 a round.
-
I might be interested if we can get prices below normal local prices. I'd mainly be interested in 223, 5.56, and 9mm. Hopefully there're enough BI peeps to make a group buy worthwhile. ;)

Same here for BI buy,
5.56 7.62, AND .45.
Not that I have any firearms that use that, I just like to collect ammo.

And now some liberal in Oregon introduced a bill limiting ammo buys to 20 rounds a month! Glad he got his buy in ahead of that. :shake:

tillamook, no offense to your friend, but the prices on his website for "bulk" ammo are pretty terrible. even if the price were to include shipping and tax, those prices would only be about the same as ammo prices at local gun stores on Oahu. for comparison, the prices at the semi annual gun show on oahu are lower than the price on that website.
his prices should be much lower than hawaii prices simply because he is on the mainland and there is a lot less cost added for shipping/freight/hazmat.
there are local companies that would probably be willing to organize a bulk ammo order for the Big Island.
What are current ammo prices on the Big Island for common calibers?
if people can post some of the "Cents per round" price for the following calibers, it would greatly help give us Oahu people an idea of what you're currently paying for plinking ammo:
223 Rem or 5.56mm Nato
308 Win or 7.62mm Nato
7.62x39 (AK ammo)
9mm
40 S&W
45 Auto
22 LR (brick price)
12 gauge (bird, buck, and slugs)

This is a public forum. most of us BI guys don't like or trust
cops so you won't get a good ammo price quote on this site.
I will say you can get mainland prices if you
bend the rules. I never bend the rules!
Keep at least 1,000 rounds for every gun you own.
There's about 1,400,000 registered guns in Hawaii
and about 3 times that un-registered( my anecdotal count).
Hawaii population is about 1.2 million.
You Oahu guys should be more respectful.

He is still good to work with. He got me a part that he did not have on his website for a better price than anywhere else and shipped it to me for free. Jeremy has a lot of good reviews over on NWfirearms
But obviously, I'd only want to do a bulk deal if he can get it shipped here for less than what it costs local.
He is researching freight charge options if we wanted to give it a try.
I still need to stop by the local shops and see what prices are like. I havent bought anything in a while. Just trying to get ahead of all these bills that are in the legislature.

I'm curious why you are worried about Hawaiian laws?
Made by Democrats.

Funny how no one helps sell more guns than democrats/gun laws

my local shop has bulk American Eagle 5.56 at $0.45 a round.

If I'm patient and wait for sales, local prices on BI aren't too bad.
Couple of months ago, I picked up a couple of boxes of Federal .223 for about .31 a round.
Different store different day, I picked up American Eagle 5.56 for .36 per round.
This is all in the Hilo and Keaau area.
Haven't bought 9mm or 44 mag in a while, so I don't know current local prices. Sure would like to stock up on 44 mag. Really fun pistol to shoot.

would you guys shoot steel cased ammo in any of the common calibers? the steel cased stuff is usually a lot cheaper
