For me im more concerned about poa/poi vs. Rounds stacking. But the latter come with consistant poa/poi.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190220/aad03c36b45297dad81c94be200a1cda.jpg)

thanks. after handing over my 10/22 to my nephew, I needed a replacement. I love to shoot this bolt action on the silhouette side. hitting the small targets at 100m can still be challenging especially in the wind. optic is a Primary Arms 22 scope fixed 7x magnification, with ACSS reticle which helps to adjust for the distance and wind
I could shoot this all day! :shaka:
-
Since there is such a huge drop going from 50 to 100, do you guys just hold over or click the elevation knob? I'm kind of lazy to keep clicking back and forth. And Still new to 22 so I don't want to mess with the knobs to much.

my bolt action's optic has BDC on the reticle so I just use that. I think it has adjustments out to 200 yards. although its not dead on accurate with the reticle but it get me pretty darn close.
-
I do both hold and dial. Using turrets is not a problem for me as I do it often for F T/R. For 22 using MIL zero at 50, hold 1 mil for 75y, 2.1 mil for 100 plus wind. Pretty easy if u have a good reticle. For MOA approx 2 1/4 moa for 75 and 7 1/4 for 100y. Dialing is way more precise if shooting very small targets.

This thread is fascinating. Any other rifle/scope combo recs othe than Stang's handsome Ruger? Trying to decide on a CZ or Savage but leaning toward the Savage because of price and some "target" features that can be packaged. Heard any feedback on accuracy? Thanks. And, oh, what size are those circle targets? :shaka:

IMO you need to be very honest on your accuracy expectations. If benchrest accuracy is what you want, buy a high end rifle and feed it high end ammo. For me I have several rifles. The 2 I shoot the most is a Savage with a GM 10/22 barrel on it and a Kidd barreled 10/22. They both shoot very well and has held it's own in many online and local matches. I may be building a CZ in the future. With that said if money was no object, but it is, I would want a custom 40x like Nakas.

The white and black paper is the size of a thumb tac, it's called "tac-driver" or something.
The black and red, the red is about a nickle.
I'll post pics of the optic and rifle set up when I get home.

^^^This, I'm learning quickly the limitations of my $375 rifle (mainland price). But for the price and cheap ammo I'm shooting, I'm happy.
My whole reason to getting into 22 was the cheap ammo. So to buy the more high end stuff, defeats it's purpose. But I do have boxes of the good stuff saved for friendly competitions. I'm pake.
The wife is in the planning phase to building a KIDD. Her budget would probably be in the $1200 range without optic. And guess who's paying for that....This guy (thumbs pointed inward). She so far has decided on a KIDD action, match barrel, and single stage trigger. Brownell's receiver. Still looking for cool looking stocks, Vudoo was to expensive.
-
Oh and I will add that I bought a different Savage many many years ago with a 3-9 from a LGS. I shot 10k plus rounds a year and basically taught myself how to shoot accurately. Breathing, natural point of aim, trigger control, etc... So much fun. Still have that Savage too and it still drives tacks.

1200 for rifle is a lot!! I don't have that much in mines.
I like NRL22 where they have the Base Class and Open Class. They restrict the rifle and optic price for the Base Class. That way someone can have fun and be competitive without spending a ton of money. I do believe that is one reason their series is blowing up across the country. Shooter's ability can take you far in Rimfire PRS.
In Rimfire benchrest, you can't compete without a significant investment in rifle, optics and equipment. Not to mention ammo.

Like I said I rarely shoot groups except when testing ammo. On top of that I almost never measure or take photos. This is what I could come up with from one of my factory varmit barreled Savage. It is not the best group from this rifle but close.
-
This is what I shoot at for 50y prone or barricade stuff. 3/16"-1"ish

This is for 100y or positional shooting closer. 1/2"-1 1/2".

Show off!!   I see that your scope does not have exposed target turrets. I can see the hesitation for dialing for elevation and windage and holding instead. I have one setup similar, hard to be as precise if holding in my experience. Not impossible though.

Savage is plenty accurate with the ammo it likes. Only thing I don't like about mine is that sometimes feeding is finicky from certain mags. other than that I love it, and never had any regrets choosing it over a CZ. I think the savage has a better trigger over the CZ as well.

I dial. Good ammo and good scope will be repeatable. .22 at 100 is good training for longer range center fire shooting and wind reading. IRC supposed to be similar to shooting .308 at 500 yards, wind drift wise. It helped my fclass scores when we had matches.

Still learning wind drift. Right now it's 100% guesstimation on how much the grass is moving. But on Sat when I went, I was able to hit 3 inch steel at 100 using CCI SV constantly and had to hold to the right a little bit. But IDK if it was skill or luck. I'm leaning more toward luck. It was difficult to see the grass also because I have a 18X so I had to actually aim lower to get the grass picture, then aim back up. The steel was about 5 feet above the ground (horse stand hanging).

Take a look at this.
It will show wind direction and bullet impact.

I couldn't agree more. My 22 @100y is very close to 223@400y. I don't see the same waterline drift with the centerfire that I do with the 22 due to wind though.

Damn 22 is like voodoo. Who would have guess a wind coming from either left or right, the head would move up or down also. Gotta memorize the chart. Thanks.

Yep, wind is fun!
In my experience, which is by no means professional, I watch conditions and pick a condition in which the wind is light but steady, Never shoot in the boil. The wind is usually cyclic there will be gusts, steady light periods, and times when the wind drops off completely. I try to look for a light steady condition and make my shots then, dope impacts and compensate, then attempt to make all score shots as quick as possible during those lulls. If you shoot in a no wind condition (the boil as seen in the scope) shots go who knows where.
Also you need to watch conditions at the line, half way, and at the target... Yep FUN! ;D
I know at puuloa, there are wind flags every 100 yards, there could be full value wind on all the flags except one flag that is 2/3 to the target at 600 yards, if you break the shot that would throw you off the 10 ring.
-
Great info Heavies!
For all that shoot rimfires for accuracy, they know how difficult shooting in wind can be. Most fear wind, you should instead embrace it and learn it. Wind comes in similar patterns to waves in the ocean. There are times when the "sets" come and times when the lulls happen. Wind flows over the land very much like water would, not just horizontally. Those that are on Oahu and shoot at KHSC have experienced the swirl like effect the wind has because of the crater like area the range is built on. The wind near the far left and right of the range is not what it is in the center. Most people will also misjudge wind velocity until they use an anemometer. What I thought was 10-15mph trades was nowhere near that until I acquired one. --- I absolutely love shooting 22s in the wind.

Shooting a 22 at 200+ yards is even more challenging than 100 that they allow. The drop is crazy, I almost ran out of room on my scope for the hold over (I don't adjust elevation knob).

this is the optic on my bolt action 22. Primary arms 6x 22LR scope. its not expensive, around $130
its not made for bullseye competition so if you want super accurate this is probably not what you want, its more geared at plinking and small game hunting like squirrels, rabbits, crows or birds. good for quick range estimation, target acquisition, wind hold overs or moving target leads
I wanted something to shoot at the silhouette side on my 22 rifle, and this is working out great for this purpose
I have the 1 gen scope, now they are on gen 3.

The arca has a barricade stop and the bipod has another which will clamp and lock down onto a barricade. I have a gamechanger bag but it does not have an arca mount on it. The only tripod I have is a hunting one and that does not use arca either but been thinking about adapting a ball head or something similar to it.

Sure looks like it.
The test targets came with the rifle, from Anschutz Custom House.
Shot by Steve Boelter, President of Anschutz North America, himself a benchrest shooter.
The "one-hole 5-shots" is my hole-in-one (in golf).

Why wait?!?! We can start out own informal one on the prone side. I'll bring the shooting sticks, ladder and swingers. Let's do this!!

I love rimfire, mostly because I’m chang and 22 is cheap. I have a couple 10/22’s I built up and a first gen S&W 15-22 I modded with a 2-stage trigger and Battlecomp brake. I also have a couple 22lr rifles built in the 50’s that I inherited. My 2 current builds are 10/22 chambered in 22WMR and third 10/22 set up for sub sonic rounds. I want a bolt action chambered in 17WSM but can’t bring myself to drop that kind of coin.
I would love to shoot rimfire in a precision rifle style like they did last year at the HDF fun shoot.

I've been looking at these online but wonder if I could put flip up or other AR sights on it. Want to be able to take to the boy scout camp and teach a little bit with a better platform than what they have. Lets just say at 50 FEET, a 3 inch group is phenomenal.
So could you put a rail section up front and mount sights?
-
The front rail is mlock so u could put flip up.
But the problem is the rail on the receiver is 30 moa. So not sure how that would work with flip ups. Ruger does make a 0 moa rail for it, but its a special order. Doesnt come with the rifle.

But the problem is the rail on the receiver is 30 moa. So not sure how that would work with flip ups. Ruger does make a 0 moa rail for it, but its a special order. Doesnt come with the rifle.

30 MOA? Dang you like come with me to Vegas for some ELR 22 action? Just some 500 yard 22lr tings. Red Rock Casino right down the road. https://dsrpc.org/inaugural-desert-sportsmans-elr-22-lr-rimfire-match-3/

I have a Troy Industries T22 Chassis. It uses AR15 buttstock, pistol grips and comes with integral flip up sights and will accept any Ruger 10/22 barrelled action,

The "Trump" 45/22 I got from the closing of Royal Hawaiian gun club for $99. Shot ok when I got it, but I had a squib, wasn't paying attention, and rang the barrel. I relined it with a Brownells liner and chamber reamer. This was the first shots after getting it to feed and sights drifted back in. 10 yard, CCI mini mags

Not sure. I had an old box of cheapo bulk ammo I got from a friend, probably purchased during the Great .22 Depression of the Obama years. Must have not had enough powder. The projectile looks like it traveled about 2/3 down the barrel, by looking at the position of the ring inside the barrel.
Thinking I had a misfeed or something, and without thinking I racked the bolt and squeezed off the next round. There was a bit more recoil and impact was clear off the target backer at 25yards. After that I couldn't even hit the target board at 25. Stopped shooting for the day, took it home and seen the ring in the tube.
I was real sad, and the ruger's barrel can't be undone without specialty tools. So I figured project time and ordered a liner and played with it here and there.

Didn't think it was of any use other than plinking fun or target shooting, but it really does help to improve your shooting larger cal pistols. Same idea for rifle too. A lot cheaper ammo for practice as well.

.22lr isn't a big deal, hard part was avoiding the ejector, as it's riveted in, and filing the extractor cut to make it work right. It's operation not 100%, but it works good enough for practice and fun.
I should have got a normal .22lr chamber reamer, I ordered a match type reamer. I'm thinking that the tighter chamber makes the pistol jam up when it starts to get a little dirty. That and the well worn mags I got from RHGC when I bought it might be the problem.
-
.22lr isn't a big deal,
Yeah not a lot of pressure generated by a 22lr. I've read of barrels getting ringed from having way too much oil in it. Don't know if that's true but could see the hydraulic possibilities.
I do remember a friend having issues with some cheap, dirty ammo. I believe the chamber got so dirty, a round only partially chambered and fired. IIRC the unsupported portion of the case ruptured but no one was hurt.
-
Got to do a little 100y Smallbore F-Class practice today. Not the official NRA target but close enough for practice. Was shooting safe side and got pushed out the front door on the let offs. 248 and 246/ 25 shots. Had fun though.

Today would've been a good day to video the swingers with Changemyoil66. Left my spotting scope at home so couldn't record.

Not the best photo, but my new CZ457 Varmint. Waiting on the scope mount still.
Also have a Ruger MKIV 22/45 on the way.

The market in Hawaii for quality rimfire ammo is non existent. Only a few guys willing to spend for the quality stuff. LGS can't tie up their money for product that will sit for years. If there was more competitions, the market would increase drastically.

I would be at fault for that as well. I only got about 6 boxes (not bricks) of GECO and that's not even the Cadillac of 22 ammo. The rest is CCI/SV. But if I had a more expensive rifle, then I would probably be running quality ammo all day. But since I'm just starting out, the RPRR holds its own.

I agree it is all relative. Not everyone has the same goals and reasons for shooting. Don't think the rifle is holding you back though. I bet you'd be pretty surprised what your rifle is capable of. At the end of the day, It's the Indian!!!! Not many want to believe it though.

Handled a CZ bolt action .22 lr today at SEC. Pretty tempting.
Do any of the .22 or bolt actions have more aftermarket options than others? Like how there are tons for Rem 700, but less for brands like Winchester and such.

Of course the Vudoo and Rem 40Xs have the most due to being based off a 700 platform. For the mid to low prices range rifles, Savage and CZ have the most. Even then though mostly stock/ Chassis options, some Barrels and triggers. Savage and CZ at popular because they are pretty accurate right out of the box.

Quality chassis offer the largest amount of adjustment to fit the shooter perfectly. I have an XLR Chassis on my comp rifle and it is the chit. My 22 trainers just have adjustable cheek pieces. I'v been thinking about adding 3 way adjustable buttplates but too many other things on the "want list".
I think you'll be happy with either Savage or CZ. I have 2 Savage MKIIs and they both shoot well. I would like to get a 455 but again that damn "want list". Dedicated upper like ren has is also on that list.
-
CZs have after market barrels available. Green Mountain just listed replacement barrels for Savages but from reason took it off their website the last few days. I'm not sure how they will address headspace issues. In my experience, headspace on rimfires makes a huge difference on how a barrel performs not just functions.

I have no pull in this industry, but if anyone is on the fence of getting a Vudoo V22, don't hesitate to call them up and speak with Paul Parrott. Customer service and lead time (about 4 weeks) is top notch. Here is a build they did for me and an 8 shot 50 yard group with SK Rifle Match ammo (from Prime Sports).
Action = Vudoo V22 22lr
Stock = Foundation stock Dark
Barrel = Proof Carbon 18" 5/8x24 thread
Trigger = Bix n Andy Tacsport pro 2 stage
Bottom Metal = Vudoo
Bipod = Modular Evolution
Scope = Nightforce ATACR 7-35 F1
Scope rings = American Rifle company M10
In case anyone is interested, the SK Rifle Match 8 shot group = Avg velocity of 1055, SD 9.6.

Can't we adopted 3 cats for our new condo. Gotta take them to the vet. Tried to reschedule, but the Mrs. is adamant about sticking to the doctors check up time line. I'll try again and tell her Bushido wants her to meet someone. Maybe that will change her mind. They're indoor cats so I dont feel they need their 2nd round of vax.
Didn't shoot last month either due to moving. Finger is super itchy.

Harrell Tuner and Don Blue’s Carbon-Fiber Extension Tube
Just got the carbon-fiber extension tube to fit on the tuner, from Don Blue last week.
The Harrell tuner is to minimize the barrel vibrations to lessen the vertical
stringing of a shot group. The extension tube is to provide consistency in the gas
blowout when the bullet exits the muzzle. Well that’s the theory, anyway.
Don Blue said that with the extension tube, he gets smaller groups by ½ bullet diameter, and gets consistency (POA to POI) shooting bullseye to bullseye….
On Sunday, I tried Harrell tuner and extension tube, and got more consistent 5-shot, one-hole groups than I ever got with no tuner or with tuner. Kokohead had a little wind as usual, but not that much on Sunday.
I was shooting Lapua Midas+ 22LR ammo. I also shot SK Purple Flat Nose Match which never really shot well with no tuner or with tuner. However, it shot noticeably better with the tuner and the extension tube.
Must experiment some more to see any definitive results……

Some days we shoot amazing, others not so much. That's what keeps us coming back. Always learning, always trying to improve, always adapting and adjusting. You learn more from your failures than you do your successes.
I rarely shoot for "groups", I prefer shooting for score.

Shot RWS R50 on Sunday in the same 54.30.
It seems that Lapua Midas+ shoots way way better in this particular rifle.
The R50 was grouping with "large" one-hole groups, whereas the Midas+ would shoot "tighter" one-hole groups......
POA & POI seems together with the Midas+, and a little looser with the R50. Anyway, really need to do more experimenting with this bloop tube......
Plan to try it on my 54.18 BR50 this coming weekend...........
This bloop tube makes a difference that is noticeable..............
556Fun tried the bloop tube on his Anschutz rifle with Harrell tuner, and said that the groups tightened up.........................

This forum hasn't been letting me post pics for awhile.
One of the mods recommended registering for a free picture site and post the links on here. Just upload the pics there and copy/paste the right link on 2A.
That's what I do. I use IMGUR by pasting the BBCode link here.
Like this:

The explanation is the forum may have exceeded its file storage limit.

Note: That's the nature of digital imagery: size matters. You should know what size best matches your needs, then know how to resize images appropriately. Example: resizing a 32x32 thumbnail to 600x800 is probably not a good solution, since the resolution of the original image is way too grainy to enlarge that much and be recognizable. Making images smaller usually has no problems, but upsizing results will vary.
Directions: In IMGUR, in your list of images (grid), hover over the pic you want to share (a PEN icon and a TRASHCAN icon appear over the bottom of the pic).
Click the [Pen] icon. The image is framed in a green border with a green checkmark in the corner, and an [Edit] button appears above the top-right of the grid of pics.
Click [Edit].
Once in edit mode, if the pic is wider than tall (landscape), I usually make mine about 600 - 800 pixels wide, and I accept whatever height it calculates to maintain the aspect ratio.
If the pic is taller than wide (portrait), then I set the height to between 600 - 800 and take whatever width gets set.
To change the width or height, just click the number to change and type the new value.
Use the [TAB] key after typing in your new width or height to see the change.
Once you have the correct size set, click [SAVE]. The original pic you uploaded will now be altered to that size.
If you haven't copied the link to that pic yet, you'll need to go back to your images list. Click on that pic, and you'll see the links. (That screen is where the [Edit] link is at the bottom-left, FYI.)
In the Forum, if you previewed the bigger pic, then tried resizing, the one in 2A's PREVIEW won't always change. You'll need to make an update in the post and refresh the screen to get the forum to go back out and "see" the smaller pic.
If you already pasted the IMGUR link to 2a, then resized it, the link will be the same. No need to copy/paste it again. But, be sure to update something in the post (type a space?) and refresh the browser to see the change.
If the post keeps showing the pre-edited size, try copying and pasting the IMGUR link again into the post. That seems to be a good workaround when 2A won't show changes. I don't understand why, since the link you paste is identical to the one replaced. It's probably just in how the forum software caches the image and needs to be prompted to retrieve the image again.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Flapp ! :worship: It works, and I was able to downsize my photos to about 600x800

That's exactly my thoughts. I still have 223/556 but I'm going to ration my shooting of all centerfire ammo and shoot more 22 for now and reload more :shaka:

Anyone got input on a G44?

This non-workaround workaround only happens if you leave your Profile Look and Layout on the default settings. If you change the option to show most recent posts at the top, it'll show the last page first with a partial page at the "end" -- or Page 1. Until there's another full page of comments, the error will continue.
Just FYI.

A little tip for all you .22 fans out there that are looking for high grade .22 ammo but can’t find it. I checked out the CMP website yesterday and they are still selling .22 ammo (It did not say backordered nor did it say out of stock). So as long as you qualify you can buy some awesome .22 ammo shipped straight to your home. I just joined a qualifying local club and I will be buying a case as soon as I get my ID card.

I got the, "Sorry. We don't ship to Hawaii anymore" message. They changed carriers. I ordered the Eley bulk pack in the past and it shot good in my guns.

Oh I am sorry about that. I just assumed they still shipped there since I bought many cases from them over the years.
Would you say the Eley bulk packed ammo shot as well as CCI SV? I want to stock up on some .22 ammo and I can’t find CCI SV any more. Thanks!
-
Eley shoots well in my Compass Lake dedicated upper and my Ruger MKII. It seems more reliable than the batch of CCI SV that I have been using.

Thanks! Overall the reviews I have been seeing are favorable. As soon as I get my paperwork together I’m going to order a case.

Inspector and Teichi,
Me and my friends order our premium 22LR from Jennifer at Kaleoarms. (www.kaleoarms.com and email to: admin@kaleoarms.com)
We can get almost any Lapua Center-X, Midas+, X-Act; any Eley like Tenex (red); SV like purple flat nose; RWS R50, etc.
Send Jennifer an email to see what she can get for you (or what you want to order).
Minimum 1 brick.
She has shipments about every 2 months to HI.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don’t live on island any more. I have pretty much anything I want shipped to me.

I've been checking KaleoArms, no scheduled shipments to Hawaii any time soon
I hope they have something, although I've been stockpiling a lot of stuff in the past several months. and years

Stang,
Why don't you email Jennifer at admin@kaleoarms.com?
She usually answers really quickly.
What are you looking for?

I did so much stockpiling and buying parts and guns, now i'm all cashed out. but if they were doing a palate I would get more of what they got for me the last time: HSM 44mag cowboy ammo. price was good, like mainland prices, brass is Starline, comes in around 900-something fps so a nice shooting 44mag but a little more than a 44sp
I'm in no rush bc i have a lot of ammo now and reloading supplies. but if they have a palate already set up to come in, i would order more ammo

from KaleoArms Hawaii ammunition requests page: http://www.kaleoarms.com/hawaii-ammo-requests/
Update August 9, 2020: Because of the nationwide shortage of 223/556 and 9mm, we will not have an August pallet. At this point, a September pallet is also unlikely. We will post updates to this page, 2aHawaii, and reply to all inquiry emails sent since the last pallet if the situation changes.

The wife ordered her stock, and she's buying a KIDD action, barrel, trigger. Got the permit to acquire, just waiting for the stock to come in.
On a side note, we've been going to the pistol side and she got to shoot a 22. Browning maybe? IDK the make. She had fun and wants to get a 22 pistol now too. Told her I'm getting a 1911 first.

Anyone have an extra Magpul x22 backpacker stock for a 10/22 takedown you’d like to part with?

The CMP Eley practice ammo shoots very similar to CCI SV. I would put them in the same quality/price bracket as well. It's good stuff. Slight downfall is that is has a lot of lube on it. Not an issue for me

Thanks! That’s what I was hoping for. I went ahead and ordered a case. It should be here in the next week or two. I’m just looking for a good replacement for the CCI SV since the CCI SV is not available anywhere. And when it does become available, they are asking between 10 cents a round with a one box (50 round) limit or up to 24 cents a round no limits. Considering I used to buy the CCI SV for as little as 6 cents a round (Case price) less than a year ago and 7 cents a round regular price anytime I couldn’t bear buying it at those inflated prices.
I use the SV for general all around target practice with all my .22 rifles and pistols except my Glock .22 conversion which requires HV ammo. While I could use HV ammo for my modern rifles/pistols I have some older firearms that have weak actions/frames and should only be fired with SV ammo.

Just ordered some KIDD parts for the wife's 22 from Prime Sports. Her stock should be coming in first week of December. I'll post pics later. The original stock she wanted, wasn't lavendar like how the pics showed. Instead it was dark purple (Boyd Stocks). They gave her a refund, but we had to pay for the return shipping.

Both of my 10/22’s are total Kidd parts except the receiver. They are worth the money. I get excellent results!

She also ordered the scope this weekend. 6-24X. I forgot the brand, I wanna say Vortex Strike Eagle>? But also forgot to order rings for the scope. TBH, I don't know much about precision type rifles.

The Kidd barrels are tack drivers. That is a nice scope. You should be able to find a brand on 22 ammo that will shoot less than MOA at 100 yards when there is little to no wind.

Its a vortex crossfire 2. Got lots of cci 22.
Below is what my ruger rimfire precision can do with no rear bag and cci sv at 50yrds. Im sure it can group tighter, but user error.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201201/62c623c23ccb4cf67306e110b31622fd.jpg)

I finally upgraded from a old Tasco 8x fixed reticle to the vortex on my 270. My gun smith scolded me why. I told him I just to start to shoot out at longer distances beyond 300 yards.
