HIFICO and LIFE partnered to give Melissa a handgun class last weekend. She is the Punahou student that wrote articles supporting the 2nd Amendment but had never shot a gun. She enjoyed her shooting experience and is looking forward to more in the future.

The comments on there that got to me the most were by the FUDD's calling out the "Neanderthal-like" tendancies of modern firearms owners, and the knee-jerk reactions to opposing "common sense" gun controls. I expect antigunners to be ignorant and hateful, but a firearms owner turncoat is a disgrace... Go get your cookies from the leftists FUDD's, you've been good boys!

While I have supported the Second Amendment since I was in the sixth grade — I’m a believer that you don’t need to own a gun or have even shot a gun to support the Second Amendment. . .
It is noteworthy that those who are the least knowledgeable of firearms are often the most adamant about restricting an individual’s right to bear arms. Indeed, the anti-gun lobby frequently appears unfamiliar with both firearms and laws pertaining to gun ownership. A case in point: being unable to make the distinction between semi-automatic and automatic firearms and throwing around imprecise, almost emotion-laden terms such as “military style” or “assault rifle or weapon,” which they cannot define.
QFT
As mentioned in another thread, LIFE offers to host any politician for handgun safety class, as well as events like fun shoots and the SSF. I've helped here and there on the rare occasion that the politicians do come out to take advantage of that opportunity. Most really are ignorant of firearms in general with much of what they "know" about firearms gleaned from movies, TV, and the media. Like they are shocked that an AR15 doesn't blow out their shoulder, or that the recoil from a 12 ga shotgun doesn't send them flying across the room. In my recent emails to legislators, I've offered to either to take them shooting at Koko Head, or to bring them to one of the various shooting events put on by local groups. I have yet to receive a response. I have taken many friends of friends shooting for the first time. That includes many friends' wives who were mostly against guns. But after being able to enjoy it in a safe and fun environment, many have actually come out of that experience wanting to shoot again. At worst, I've had them try and while they decide it's not for them, the experience did alleviate much of their anxiety about guns and are more accepting of those that responsibly enjoy shooting.

There are also some anti-gun gun owners making comments too. “I own guns and any responsible gun owner is in favor of stricter background checks.” WTF? :grrr:

If you don't support their values and policies "you are irresponsible" is only one syllogism away from (the already stated) "The NRA is a terrorist organization that murders children". That's logic to them.
They (not just the moms) demand agreement. If you disagree, even just on the verbal/intellectual level, the only suitable action toward the recalcitrant is removal or elimination (See: The Gulag Arhipelago, etc., etc., etc.).
IF Trump wins a second term they may go even more full retard bat shit crazy engage in even more provocative acts than just punching the occasional (hundreds) of MAGA hat wearers...

Yes, brutal insane PIGS. It is sad that Melissa had to receive comments from idiots like that for taking the time to experience what shooting and gun owners are really all about and genuinely sharing her experience. I wish more politicians would take that initiative. I was at that LIFE class and Melissa was soft spoken and understandably uncomfortable shooting for the first time. I had her early after the initial introduction to shooting a handgun with rimfire and we normally move along to centerfire but she was reluctant to move off of 22's. I think I got her to shoot a couple of 9mms before she rotated to a different instructor. After a few rotations Melissa ended up with the instructor next to me and still not comfortable with centerfire, he took back down to 22's and worked with her through a couple of rotations and he did an awesome job of building up her skill and confidence. I got Melissa back on the second to the last rotation and apparently she had not fired a center fire revolver yet. I had her load one round of 38 special into a Mod 67, put her into the proper revolver grip and she fired. I told her "pretty mellow huh" and asked her if she wanted to try .357 magnum next. She nodded yes so I had her load one round into a 686, adjusted her revolver grip and she fired . . . no problem. I told her "big difference huh" you want to try that again, and she nodded yes without hesitation. Now this was factory 158 grain magnum ammo. After a couple more partial cylinders of magnums, she enthusiastically finished off three full cylinders of .357 magnum with a grin on her face. The power of the revolver

Eh, maybe a S&W 500 magnum next.
