Title: Toll Roads anyone?
Post by: 6716J on March 13, 2019, 06:10:48 AM
Seems the Crown wants to find more ways to sock it to us.

Below from David Ige Facebook post

https://hiruc.org/

The Hawaii Department of Transportation will hold 14 community meetings across the state to get public feedback on the concept of a road usage charge to fund the upkeep of roadways and bridges. Click to view meetings that are currently scheduled: http://bit.ly/2XSUGSb

Hawaiʻi residents can also provide input and ask questions via an online community meeting on Thursday, April 18.
More information about all meetings will be available on the project website www.hiruc.org.

Indeed, tax cars to pay for rail, corrupt public servants, civil lawsuits, homeless crackheads, etc etc etc

"You need to conserve and be efficient to save money.
So you were conservative and efficient so we need to charge you more because we don't get enough."

And the poll at the website asks if you would rather be shot with a .22lr 100x, a 9mm 20x or a 40mm 1x

Maybe if they hadn't raided the State Highway Fund to balance the general fund almost whenever they needed money ...

Quote
Meisenzahl told Hawaii News Now the state has not raised its portion of the registration fee since 1991.
The highway fund has been raided in recent years to help balance the budget, and Meisenzahl said the
DOT desperately needs money.
"The Department of Transportation, we get no money from the general fund. We get nothing from your
tax dollars. It's all fees," he added.

Cancel the rail project and use that budget to fix the roads,

2 birds, one stone.

I just got back from AZ less than 2 hours ago and I read about this stupidity.  More l like move mainland.  The wife is open to the idea, but only if it is near Las Vegas because grandkids are there and some friends.  Gotta wait till our oldest Rottweiler passes away first.  She is 11 and still able to jump on the bed.  Most Rotties mahke by then.

Bring your dog with you.  I know a guy who moved to TX with a 14 year old beagle.  She adjusted well.  Felt snow for the first time and did the paw shaking thing.

Vegas to AZ is a close drive.  Just close enough to see family when you want to, but far enough that they don't drop the kids off everyday so you have to babysit.

I would be cautious about Vegas though.  State is slowly turning liberal blue (new gun law about FFL between private parties).  That law sat on the desk of the previous gov for about 2 years and he never got around to signing it.  New DNC gov and he signed it.  More from CA moving and Radiers coming so housing market will be increasing more than normal.

When I move, I going live in an RV.  Wife said she can live long term in one.  I checked out a few RV parks, $435 to $750 to park for a month with your RV hooked up to electric power and sewer, depending on size of your RV.  If things get bad, easy to move, plus I can stay in the RV when attending FS in their RV lot.

Toll roads and traffic camera tickets are a special kind of hell.

Seen RV's for the first time a few trips ago and those things aren't cheap.  But IIRC, RV/cars are an extension of your "castle" in Vegas.

I was actually thinking of a 5th wheel travel trailer.  You can get a really nice one for $50k.  Much cheaper than buying a house.

You can find them for half that and still nice. Just a little older. I prefer without the slides. One less thing to break.

Last week's episode of Grand Tour (Top Gear) on Amazon had them in Vegas in custom made RVs. With those guys, RVs never end well.

I like what this guy did with 20 foot shipping containers. I'm actually trying to plan my own now.

This place is getting too expensive for my blood. Plus the craziness of the progressive left is maddening at times.
