State Rep. Cynthia Thielen, whose district includes Kailua and Kaneohe Bay, said Oahu tour helicopters should be grounded “until the authorities have assessed the situation" and determined whether it’s safe to allow non-emergency chopper flights over residential areas.
Wasn't Thielen behind the assault weapon ban this session?

Given that helicopters where just invented and we dont have decades of safety data, that all the helicopters are exactly the same and piloted by the exact same guy, I think it is an exceptional idea from our leaders to ground all helicopters.
Next time there is a car accident I also hope they ban driving every car in the world until the cause is determined.
Our legislators surprise me more and more every time they talk. Amazing.

What a dumb statement, its not like helicopters are regularly falling out of the sky. It is a relatively rare thing and not something needing legislation.

Haoles in kailua asking to not have anything flying over their homes. Same people who build a 2 story home infront their neighbors (local) blocking their view. Then when another haole does it to them, they complain about their view being blocked.

Based on the strong rains and lightning in the area, and reports that there was a loud "BANG" prior to the crash, it's not unreasonable to ask if a lightning strike might have been the cause.
If they determine lightning was the cause, it's an "act of God," and grounding would only serve to harm operators, employees and customers of helicopter-based businesses.

....
Apparently a catastrophic failure in mid air. Quite possibly lightning. There was a lot of lightning in my area yesterday too.
It was so strong, my dog was actually whining in fear. This was the first time he has ever done that. Very strange.
Regarding that ridiculous statement from Thielen....
She is just trying to appease her aged affluent caucasian constituency.

Something that kind of disturbed me.....
While the bodies are LITERALLY STILL WARM, Thielen comes out with that "ban the copter" statement.
Talk about politicizing a tragedy.
No class.

Would you expect anything else from her? If there was another Xerox, then more gun bans press conferences would be held within an hour of the all safe signal.
