Oh, come on... this fine young immigrant only choked the woman to unconsciousness and did this to the guy's face:

That kind of thing hardly merits separation of this fine young man from the rest of us, who, I'm sure, are looking forward to meeting up with him in some isolated place to enjoy his company. Lucky we live Hawaii!

wow, prosecutors is asking for 18 months, he got probation Even 18 months is extremely light for such a heinous and unprovoked attack. Nothing new in hawaii nei.
Do you remember the domestic violence charge when war machine beat up his pornstar girlfriend in las vegas.? He got life in prison.
Do you remember when berdon beat up his wife ostovich bad enough to fracture her eye sockets in waianae? he got probation.
Hawaii catch and release program still in effect. But don't worry guys! rely on the police for self protection even though they have no legal obligation to do so. A cop can stand by and watch someone beat you to death, not lifting a finger, and he's perfectly within his legal rights. The lack of obligation by the police to protect was affirmed by the supreme court.

yeah, something wrong with these Hawaii Judges. "The Hawaii Judge" is now a regular joke nationwide.

i think they're in cahoots with the rest of hawaii politicians. they know there's no room in the prisons, so unless the crime is absolutely crazy like murder and rape, they'll slap these guys on the wrist. the alternative is to throw criminals into an overcrowded prison, then it riots like maui, resulting in even worse press (for the politicians). there's zero will power or state $$$$ to address this issue.

Every year, more gun laws but no new laws for repeat offenders or things like this.
-
imagine if he did something like carry an unloaded pistol out to the sidewalk and back in his house. They'd re-institute a public hanging just for that.

Well, they do have their priorities... and none of those priorities even remotely have anything to do with their bullshit "public safety".

Man avoids jail time for stealing vehicles while on probation
https://www.mauinews.com/news/local-news/2019/05/man-avoids-jail-time-for-stealing-vehicles-while-on-probation/
WAILUKU — A man who was on probation when he was arrested in two stolen-vehicle cases was placed on probation again last week.
Aaron Wilsey, 26, of Wailuku was released from jail after spending about two years incarcerated while his cases were pending.
“He has been in a long timeout from the community, and he is ready right now to reintegrate,” said Deputy Public Defender Tyler Stevenson.
While Wilsey asked to be sentenced to probation, the prosecution had sought a prison sentence for the defendant, who previously had been placed on probation for second-degree arson and third-degree promoting of a dangerous drug.
“What’s telling is that while on probation, he continued to reoffend,” said Deputy Prosecutor Shelly Miyashiro.
In addition to accumulating new arrests, Wilsey failed to report to his probation officer and didn’t follow through with obtaining substance abuse treatment, employment or education, Miyashiro said.
“The defendant has not shown he’s willing to turn his life around,” she said. “He’s not shown he would be receptive to treatment.”
In two 2017 criminal cases, Wilsey had pleaded no contest to two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, resisting arrest and third-degree promoting of a detrimental drug. The stolen vehicles were a 2017 Honda motorcycle and a 2004 Suzuki Colt motorcycle, according to court records.
Wilsey said he wanted to continue his education to become a journeyman carpenter. “It will be different this time,” he said. [I'll take a bet on that... against that...]

these crumbs should be released to the custody of the judge that put them on probation
or have the judge assume full responsibility if they are put on probation
we need accountable judges

The news story says he got 18 months in prison plus four years probation. Still a light sentence but at least he will do some time. Maybe he will get out in six months for good behavior.
