Title: 2A right on hold in Puna
Post by: changemyoil66 on May 30, 2019, 10:22:07 AM
Short staff so no more permits issued.

Dangers of having to need a permit to buy a gun and not just form 4473.

Hawaiians check this out;

I'd send this to the governor and my legislator critters but they can't speak my language, rationality.

That's what someone on FB said who lives there.  Seems like only had 1 girl running the window.

Well, if you are talking about doing any firearms business in Puna, you'd be talking about the Pahoa substation, and they only do it by appointment, and good luck getting a call back on the voice mail you are required to leave. So nothing really new there. If you're on a five day window, just drive to Hilo, 'cause ain't gonna happen in Pahoa in time. The more inconvenient they can make it, the better, as far as they are concerned.

I personally do not violate any constitutional Federal, State, or local laws.
I knew a guy that moved here a few years back and tried to register his guns,
I forget his name, he was a Vietnam Vet that fixed helicopters in the Nam.
The police told him he could only register two per day and he had to make
appointments to do so a week or so apart.
He had 40 guns.
Anybody want to guess what he did?
My guess is get a lawyer on speed dial.

Yeah, but they're having a lot of trouble producing the quote from the Constitution that states "the right of foreigners to enter freely into the Untied States shall not be infringed".

I find that a little hard to believe because they would have been telling that person that he would be required to violate the law (5 day window to register guns brought into the state) and thus be subject to arrest, prosecution, and incarceration. Not that the cops wouldn't give people advice that turns them into criminals... i'm sure they don't care (my experience is they lie when they don't really know the law). I was once there in Hilo to pick up a permit to acquire when a guy was making multiple trips to his vehicle and back carrying arms full of cases, and the stack against the wall in the hall was two feet wide and at least three feet high. I took my permit and went to the gun store and got my gun and came back... and the guy was still in the process of registering! Had he been given the "two at a time, a week or so apart" instructions it would have taken him at least a year to become "legal"... that's a little over the 5 day requirement. Just sayin'...  :shaka:

The guy was trying to register in Kona.
He has since left the island so I can say this,
He didn't bother to register any of his guns.
Sold a few without permits before he left.
Only idiots obey the lame laws we have here.
Duh Duh That's all folks!

I've heard, fourth or fifth hand, no idea of the original source, from supposedly someone who might have somewhat reliable information, that a very high percentage of firearms possessors in Hawaii (or the east side of the big island) have at least one illegally (not grandfathered pre-law) unregistered firearm. Also, as I've mentioned before, a guy used to sell stun guns at the Pahoa Sunday market, so I'm guessing at least a couple of people might have those illegal items as well. All these absurd laws do is make a mockery of the laws themselves, the lawmakers who make them, and the cops and prosecutors who enforce them... as everyone with half a brain knows the laws do absolutely nothing to prevent crime. But that's what they do around here. Showboat. Grandstanding. Lie. Let the real criminals run free.

if you bought a long gun in a state that requires no permit or registration and then brought it to Hawaii and never registered it, how would anyone know?

That's the thing.  Some believe "It's not illegal if you don't get caught."

Murphy's law is real.  Pissed wife or girlfriend.  Vengeful co-worker or friend.  Neighbor reports you under the Red Flag law and the Cops come to confiscate.  Car wreck on the way to/from the range/hunting -- you go to the hospital -- Cops take control of your guns and ammo.

Kind of depends on who you tell or how unlucky you are.

I've had people tell me "yeah I registered the 22 but not the nice rifle my father gave me."

Then I've also heard things I would not even consider posting on an open forum.  I dont think there is the compliance the government hopes there is.  But then again, the government is pretty busy with their corruption and all.

But I also know someone arrested for getting pulled over for speeding but he left his firearm unsecured in his back seat after hunting pig.

Maybe the Cop misinterpreted the guy when he said he was hunting pigs ...    :geekdanc:

You could find a gun laying in the middle of a rainforest, take it home and put it in a safe and leave it there, never say a word to anyone, and the NSA would know about it.  ;)

I thought NSA was prohibited from spying on Americans, unless they're calling somebody in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
