Does anyone know of a local gunsmith that can properly install a side rail on stamped AK receiver? I bought a side rail for my SLR-106 and will need to have three rivets removed for the installation. I have the necessary three replacement rivets. I contacted one of the retailers on the forum (who will remain nameless) and never got a straight answer as to whether or not they do this type of work.

I don't know of anybody to help you.
Why would you buy a SLR106?
I own SKS and AK all very reliable.
I do not own a AR platform,
reason is ammunition.
I can get 7.62X39 anywhere in the world.
5.56X45 only at Government facilities.
Trust your Democrats????????????????????

I feel you are trying to make some random political statement that is completely irrelevant. 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 are nowhere near as cost effective as they used to be, which is why I no longer have AK's of either caliber. If you feel the Russian ammo ban will ever be lifted I have rail in Oahu to sell you on.

Yeah you should sell it to me for cheap ;D I know getting that Rail mounted is plan A through G but just figure I'd put this out there, seems to work pretty well.

You know about every country in the world
makes AK ammo?
5.56X45 green point almost became gone in America during the Obama
regime.
I could easily sail to Mexico get tons of 7.62X39 and bring it back to Hawaii.
Or go the other way to Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia et al.
Can't sail to Utah.
AR is easy to shoot and be accurate.
AK is easy to shoot and not quite so accurate.
Ammo availability, ease of maintenance, and reliability.
AK wins hands down.
Full disclosure; my favorite is a M14/clone.
That's 7.62X51 NATO.

If the Progressive-Socialist-Leftist Demoncrats have their way, they'll settle your argument by banning all "assault weapons". Then you won't have a choice but to go outside of the state/country to smuggle acquire ammo, get a job with the Leftist regime, or go without.
The accuracy argument of AKs is also not 100% true. My Arsenal Saiga SGL21-61 is as accurate in my hands as my Colt AR-15.

x2 Craig at Red Letter. Not cheap but he does a good job.

I have a shop press, if you buy the jig you can use it and become "that guy" the jig looks a bit pricey (around $275) but it would be worth it if you ever planned to do a build.

Even a lower tier century rebuild can yield great accuracy with the right ammo. I got lucky with my Yugo, a very impressive specimen.

Never tried my Saiga more than 100 yards (because Koko Head is the only place I have access at the moment) but can keep nice tight groups even with Tula

Craig did one of my AKs and did a great job. I’ve seen a bunch of his work and definitely impressed. I just wanted to keep things simple. He def tempted me with other ideas.
Accuracy of AKs, that’s a whole other discussion. For my wants/needs, definitely good enough for me. All goes to what you want it for. I’ve always wanted an M1A, but not for my wants nor needs. Just like 9 vs 45c whatever floats your boat.
