Thinking about a Glock 21. Been searching for accuracy enhancing mods but none that can compare to a 1911 services. I can't imagine tightening up a slide on a Glock or adding a bushing

I've been thinking of expanding to a Glock 21 as well. Some shooting buddies have them. I only have a S&W M&P 45 and my dad's AMT Hardballer. The AMT is a pretty budget 1911 though.

The only thing that can make a Glock more accurate is practice. :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
Glocks are accurate enough for SD. What do you want to use the gun for? Competition? SD? General target practice? Seriously, if you want 1911 accuracy, get a 1911. Or a revolver. If you want it for SD, don’t mod it. I have a Glock 17 I have modded. It is no more accurate than when stock. Not much you can do except improve the trigger, improve muzzle flip with a compensator and SS rod, improve reloading with an oversize mag release and flared mag well. What did I forget? But all those things help YOU improve shooting. Not improving the accuracy of the gun itself. I would not even consider tightening the slide on a Glock.

Glocks are accurate enough for SD. What do you want to use the gun for? Competition? SD? General target practice? Seriously, if you want 1911 accuracy, get a 1911. Or a revolver. But seriously, fine line is the balance between uber accuracy and reliability. I believe Nighthawk will adjust the slide to frame fitting if you request that tweak for say a duty use.

That's what I thought. I have a Salyer accurized imperial 1911. Getting a non-neocon pistol like a Glock has been novelty idea of mine for awhile. Blue label and Refurbished Glocks are pretty good prices.

That's what I thought. I have a Salyer accurized imperial 1911. Getting a non-neocon pistol like a Glock has been novelty idea of mine for awhile. Blue label and Refurbished Glocks are pretty good prices.
How much did that Salyer service run ya? :o Interesting that Ed Masaki is still mentioned/recommended for folks looking for accurized 1911s. :respect:
I've shot Wilson Combat, Nighthawk and Les Baer. That was at 7-10 yards and didn't get to test their "X inch" groups at 25 yards thing, though I'm sure the guns were WAY more accurate than me. They did seem pretty accurate though. Next "tier" for me was the SA Trophy Match. I was able to shoot that one quite a bit at 25 yards. That gun was pretty sweet.

about 750. Tightened the slide, trigger work, new sights, new Kart barrel. Setup for EIC matches.
I asked Ed awhile back but he had a backlog. Salyer did my pistol within a month. He's a retired mechanical engineer.

Glock 21 is a specific pistol, the 1911 is really just a classification of pistol. Not all 1911s are going to be the same so really your budget is going to be the answer to your question. A $500 1911 not going to be as accurate but a $2000 1911 might be more accurate. I would bet that for the dollar, the Glock is going to be more accurate.

The OP mentions "1911 services." That means he's looking at after-market modifications. ("I can't imagine tightening up a slide on a Glock or adding a bushing.")
Depending on the mods he wants, the 1911 he chooses will need to be capable of being modified to the performance specs desired.
Not everyone is afraid of spending a little extra to obtain he best possible end product.

Shot my dad's AMT 1911 over the weekend. It's definitely a budget level gun, but it was quite accurate and was able to get some very good groupings when shot at around 7-15 yards. Another friend also had good results and had a group of 5 shots touching and I think maybe 2-3 went through the same hole. Upon cleaning, the barrel bushing was fit very well to the barrel and was actually stuck in the slide. It took some tapping with a nylon punch to get it moving and needed the 1911 tool to take down the slide. My previous 1911s were all able to move the bushing by hand. So maybe this budget 1911 was fit just right.

Did you consider getting an oversize target grade barrel and having it properly fit by a gunsmith? I am sure this is probably the one mod you can do to increase the accuracy. Maybe even a drop-in target grade barrel would help some. The problem with the Glock that it is not very practical to fit the slide to the frame. Trying to get it to lockup consistently between slide and frame is probably the one variable that can’t be done.
How much accuracy are you trying to get out of it? Maybe 2” or 1” at 25 yards? I think they are already in the 2”-3” range.

I decided to stick with my 1911s. Both were accurized and shoot very well. I was tempted to the plastic darkside for a bit. I must've confused the plastic ban to affect Glocks.
Recap: The Salyer 1911 was fitted with an EZ Fit Kart barrel and since I had a Novak rear sight cut I couldn't use a Bomar rear so I used an adj Dawson rear - not my preference. The bushing is not as tight as my other 1911 which is a US Army marked one. Dont know who worked on that as I bought it used. Salyer tightened the frame and slide. He also reworked the trigger to EIC legal limits. He also recut the front sight to a dove tail and made a new front sight blade from a blank. I told him how high I was shooting and he cut a new sight. My go-to EIC load is 5.5 BE beneath 185 Nosler JHPs.
If Hawaii ever gets CCW or if I move to a CCW friendly state I'll get a Glock, CCWing a full size 1911 is cumbersome for a current identifying Asian.
