This website has become one where the people expect to get something for basically free.  Henceforth, I am taking my stuff and selling it elsewhere because the people on this site expect  to get something for 50% of what it’s worth.  After I post this ad, I will no longer post or reply to any ads on this site because the people who participate on it don’t appreciate the value of what a gun is actually worth.  I recommend that anyone reading this do the same, rather than giving in to selling your stuff for half of what you paid for it.
Up to you

I've got fair deals on the items I've purchased from other members. And given faith deals to those who have purchased from me.

Yeah I've been lowballed a few times.  I just ignore it.

I will say in this day and age, people do not know how to haggle properly, and politely.   Many take offense to offers even when they post OBO.

Just my observation

Please let me know when you have found a site where low ballers don’t exist. Godspeed

The first time I traveled to Saudi Arabia, I went with experienced GIs to the markets to learn how to haggle.  Unless you do a lot of used car or other secondhand sales, you just don't have the experience or know-how to barter.

Now that I've been to Saudi several times and South Korea more times than I can count, haggling over price is not a big deal.  No sense in getting emotional.

It's pretty simple.  The seller asks their price for something you're interested in buying.  You offer what you think that thing is worth to you, or what you think is a fair price compared to other sellers.  You have to be willing to walk away in order to get the seller to lower their asking price.  In the same way, the seller has to be unwilling to accept a too-low offer if he thinks someone else is willing to pay more.

Supply and demand drives prices.  Shop around.  Do your homework, and use the information you research to back up your position when haggling.

I imagine most of the emotional responses stem from being frustrated over the process because you don't know what price the market will support.

A firearm's "value" to you might be super low to another person, AND it may be super high to someone else.  There are those looking to "flip" anything they can:  firearms, cars, houses, etc.  They look for desperate sellers in need of cash and try to pick up a bargain -- only to turn around and advertise it for higher.  Or they may already have someone they know will pay more for it than they did.

If the only offers you get are low-ball, maybe your particular firearm isn't in high demand right now?  I've seen some ads sit here for months and months before selling, because the seller hasn't found that one buyer who will pay what it's worth.  It's just a matter of timing.

Lots of people bought firearms at whatever the seller asked when Obama was in office.  Now those guns are commanding a much lower price due to over-supply and less demand.  What you paid is not the gun's "value".  It's value is based on what a buyer is willing and able to pay for it in the condition being offered.

To me, this is all basic knowledge regarding markets and pricing.  It doesn't benefit anyone to throw a fit and accuse "the people" of expecting to "get something for basically free."  That's not only a blatant exaggeration (I seriously doubt anyone was looking to pay nothing at all, even "basically nothing at all"), it's also blasting everyone on here who never answered one of your ads.

If you can't handle the "pressure" of haggling with someone who's simply looking for a deeper discount than you want to offer, that's YOUR problem.  It's so easy to say, "No."  Taking a lowball offer personally?  That's something you just have to learn to get over.  Maybe you REALLY REALLY need to sell a gun for whatever reason.  Your situation becomes a lowball buyer's advantage.  Nothing personal.  It's just business.

This is not a classified ad.

It should not be under "Classifieds".

We went through the same symptoms for months.  The mods got VERY angry at me for asking for a status -- perhaps even having a discussion -- on what the problem and resolution might be.

The problem apparently fixed itself when they had some other things go wrong that brought the site down for a number of days.  When it came back up, we could magically upload pics again.

I'm not getting in the middle of this issue again.  I understand the "keys" to the site were handed over to new management.  Maybe that'll help.  It probably depends on who asks for it to be fixed.  If I do it, I'll probably be banned.

I'd go one step further and say he's never sold anything on the Internet ever.

Maybe he should try being Hawaii's rep for Poly 80s.  Seems to be an underserved market segment.

Personally I hope you decide to give this site a second thought before you leave. Its not perfect. The people in here are not perfect. That said, it has brought so many good people together to sell, trade, and share with one another that the little bad one experiences is acceptable. As a community we are under constant attack for our rights, making sticking together increasingly important. We have so few outlets like this, none in Hawaii that compare that I am aware of.

Hope you reconsider.

Not interested in rehashing the past.  I'm not personally affected by the problem, since I use a workaround.

If my facts are fuzzy, blame it on lack of communication.  I can only be responsible for knowing what people on here are willing to share.

I've seen several times someone will post a lowball offer in the public thread.  Sometimes they say "Cash in hand!" and "Have valid permit".

It's funny they think those things are selling points, even when the firearm is a handgun, and there is NO WAY they can possibly have the permit!

Just smile, and wave ....

First of all,  the primary purpose of this website is not to sell stuff.
It is to disseminate information about your right to own a firearm.
The other primary puŕpose is to have a virtual clubhouse for people who enjoy their firearms to meet and talk about it.

If your ONLY reason for being here is to sell stuff, then you are missing the whole point.

Firearms like many other items are worth what someone will pay you for it, I personally try to spend my money on guns that I hold to be keepers. I have ended up with an occasional one that does get sold or traded and have found most members on this site to be fair.

Yup. Just have to be an adult and know who to ignore. I don’t buy/sell much, but I already have a list of numbnuts that I ignore.
Title: Re: Done
Post by: drck1000 on January 20, 2020, 04:12:17 PM
Seriously though, there’s many sides to this. Personally, I don’t usually buy used. If I do, I’m gonna factor in risk of the item condition or anything else in how much I am willing to pay. Even if considering buying something new, I’ll factor in spending a little more to get new from a reputable dealer.

This site actually doesn’t have the dumbassery I’ve seen on other gun sites. I’ve heard other sites like for cars, motorcycles, power tools, etc is way worse. I used to be a Mod on a site that had an active classified section and we used to get pulled into all sorts of stupid stuff and disputes. Mostly people not able to be an adult or the anonymity of the internet.

That this site doesn’t allow commenting on out of line pricing is a big plus. I’ve seen many items where I feel they are WAY over priced, but I just ignore. Sometimes the prices are more than what I can get new. I think at times it’s people overspent and trying to recoup. Other times I think people truly overvaluing what they have and not considering going rate. Like my uncle who was selling a condo that was in my name. I just wanted it off my name and he wanted what he felt he could get and was higher than market and turned down a bunch of “about right” offers.

Then there are those here who are gonna always offer less than asking. It’s negotiation and I get it. But then there are those who agree to a price, meet up and be like “will you take $20 less”? WTF

Then others who ask all sorts of questions, usually that are in the listing. Listing says “upper only, not selling the optic” and I’ll get many PMs be like “how much you selling the optic for”. Then there are those I offer stuff to for free and then they either give me the runaround or ask for other stuff I have listed for free too.

Overall, I think there are good deals to be had. Just need to filter the noise to get to the signal.

Amen brother O.F.

I have a crap ton of transactions on this site, both buying and selling.
Almost everyone has been pleasant and it’s been a joy meeting members.

Only one guy tried to haggle me down on a sale of an already low priced beauty of a firearm at the time of the meeting. A 3” Ruger SP101.
He got all pissy when I told him I already gave him my best price and to buy it or walk away.

For the record I was never drunk when Moosed/Darmok/Mauidog/Flapp came to my house.  Fake News !
Drinking doesn’t equal drunk. Although Moosed/Darmok/Mauidog/Flapp might get hammered after one beer.
Heck i’ve Drank with numerous members on this site.
Occasionally got a little drunk at the old 2A get togethers that  Moosed/Darmok/Mauidog/Flapp never attended.

Meeting at a more convenient location with a handgun is illegal as Moosed/Darmok/Mauidog/Flapp is well aware.
And wasn’t my wife’s schedule. It was that she also had to sign the permit as it was joint registered.
And we had a deal then Moosed/Darmok/Mauidog/Flapp  started mentioning a scratch and offered less than the negotiated price which I already reduced.
He did then buy it at the previously negotiated price

Who can’t remember the facts?

And I think I still gave him a positive rating. (Under one of his previous user names though)

I went out of my way to accommodate your and your wife's schedules.  She was working after 5:00, and you were dumb enough to put both your names on the registration which required her to sign my permit.

I went to YOUR HOUSE.
Next morning, I went to HPD because you were traveling off island a day or two after my permit would be ready.  If I delayed, you'd have been unavailable for at least another week.
When the permit was ready, I went to HPD to pick it up and met you after 5:00 to have you both sign and take possession of the revolver.
Then the next day, I drove to HPD a 3rd time to register.

Most people with an ounce of character offer to meet at HPD on permit pickup day to save the buyer 2 needless trips.

Then you turn around and lie about it on here.

You're pathetic.

Point taken Meengirl  :shaka:  ....but DAAMMMN did you see that statement?

But Segway to a funny story:

I once had a guy who was a 2A friend.
Dropped me off a revolver I acquired from him at HPD to register.
I go to clear it at the window, thinking it’s empty, and 5 snap caps fall out.
HPD’s tripping. I’m tripping.
Apologies around, we laugh and Friend’s laughing all the way home.
Shit WAS funny.
(It was in a case from point of transfer (HPD Parking lot) to window and I know the guy)

Totally unrelated but true story.
Kind of on topic with the story but  :stopjack:

Point of the stories is great deals can be found here, both buying and selling, and 2A contacts made.
However, the point of the forum is contacts and enjoying the love of 2A Rights and what they entail. Whether it be sport or the right to defend yourself legally.

P.S. and sorry but I gotta ask Flapp one last direct question which he won’t answer.

And the only person who was pissy was you ... whining about how you were too afraid to ask your wife to meet up at HPD to do the transfer.

If you intend to sell a gun, and 2 people need to sign the permit, you should be more willing to accommodate the buyer, since it was your choice to register that way for whatever lame reason you want to have others now chime in on.

Your insecurities are showing.

At least I know who not to do business with in the future.  You don't appreciate the effort I made to help you two out, then bad mouth me on here like this.

Here's my proof -- in your own, misspelled words ....

You didn’t need to buy it.
I’ll buy it back from you for the price I sold it.
(If it’s in the same condition)

Confirmed I still gave him a positive rating.
( Under a different user name)

Kind of an example to members of how sales can go.
1 out of my 58 transactions.

Another member and me had a small disagreement once but we worked it out.
And that was like our third transaction but we worked it out all good.

I don't believe you.

You're a proven liar.

Will show up with cash.

You wouldn’t release the revolver to me without cash and a permit.

I don't believe you.
You're a proven liar.

There you go again.
I haven’t lied about a thing

Again divert, redirect and attack.
Same old shtick.

P.S. sorry Meengirl.

Add $100 to the price I paid, and I'll consider it.   I know you posted this gun in the "Guns I regret selling" topic.  If you really want it back, you'll need to make it worth my time.

Did you not remember what you wrote earlier?

Figures.

I'd turn it into HPD for destruction before I'd consider selling to you!

Did you not remember what you wrote earlier?

 :wtf:

If you weren't happy to get rid of it, then why did you sell it?  And for less than YOU paid for it??

You obviously had a change of heart and wish you had kept it -- AFTER you sold it.

Even your ad said "superficial scratches."  Don't lie and pretend it was like new.

Read the title.  I'm DONE!

Go cry to someone who cares about how much you wish you hadn't sold your SP101, and how you are making up lies about the buyer to make yourself feel better,
