I have encountered this error message when posting a 29KB pic to new topic. Original size of file was 232KB. Any remedy?
An Error Has Occurred!
Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.
Please consult your server administrator for more information.

This has been a problem for a while now.
Some people use Imgur, I tried postimage.

If you prefer using attachments, which insert a thumbnail requiring the viewer to click on it to see the actual picture, then I expect you'll continue bumping into problems on this site.
I've been using imgur to post images for years without problems. Posting a link to that repository lets me not only reuse old pictures, but it also displays the photo, not a thumbnail, which I prefer.
Be aware: if you close your image sharing account or delete an image you linked to on this or any other site, those links will no longer display the image. Links are pointers to files, not copies of them.

I suspect the real reason this is occurring is due to the owner of this forum. I owned 3 forums a long time ago. And the error message is due to the setting for allowing photos to be uploaded. My guess is the owner doesn’t want to have to pay to store all the photos we upload. He either has turned off photo uploads altogether or he made the maximum size so small we won’t be able to upload anything.

The restrictions for uploads are listed when you click to start the attachment process.
Restrictions: maximum total size 65536KB, maximum individual size 16384KB
Looks like 16MB is set on the forum.
However, there are also limits that must be set to allow that size in the PHP configuration. The forum SMF is written in PHP code.
There are also file size limits in the web server settings, such as the Apache server.
All three configurations (Server, PHP and Forum) must allow the desired file size. If they differ, you'll be limited by the smallest of the settings.

I shrank a pic to 13k and still couldn't upload. Got the same message...

Guess attachments are not the way to go... gotta learn how to use those image apps...

I use flickr for all my posts here no probs at all. All photos taken and uploaded to it was taken with my phone. Another option for you guys. :shaka:
