Title: Mayors orders on "non-medical grade mask"
Post by: changemyoil66 on April 21, 2020, 01:17:41 PM
New mandate states when interacting with customers or visitors of essential businesses, 1 must wear a non-medical grade mask.

So the N95 (white) ones bought at Home Depot are not medical grade.  If you have a blue N95, it is.  But does HPD know the difference?  Or will they just give you a ticket and you have to go to court to explain yourself?

Are surgical mask medical grade?  Guess depends on what the side of the box says.  But refer to HPD example above

So can these people get a fine for wearing 1 in public?

That moment when you realize they are just trying to see how much they can get away with.

Quote
“It’s a recommendation. A very, very strong recommendation,” he said. “Everyone on this island, when you
go out in public, please wear a mask that you’ve either acquired or made that’s not an N95 mask or a surgical mask.”

The non-surgical part is not a mandate.

The gov't can't fine or jail you for using PPE that you legally acquired before the pandemic and now want to use.  If they could, they would be holding "Mask Buybacks" like they try to do with guns.  Or they might try mask drop-off boxes in various locations to collect personally owned masks.

The concept of leaving the good masks for the first responders makes sense, but they can't require anyone to NOT use one they own already.  There's a big difference between "owning and using" versus "hoarding".

Fake news, unless you can cite a source calling this an "order".

I watched his interview, but what he said and what's written on the order are 2 different things.  Even the media posted last week that any face covering is acceptable.

But it is confusing becasue the written part says "order".  Then after all that is has a "recommendation" sentence.

*edit
I think the recommendation part is for essential workers who don't interact with customers or visitors.  So it's optional to wear a mask or not. But still cannot be medical grade.

If the order is confusing or ambiguous, then it's unenforceable no matter how any police officer tries to interpret it.

The wording of the order is to prevent a bunch of people from buying and hoarding the good masks.  But, if you already own one, they can't stop you from using it.  In fact, it would be negligent and a liability for the state to prevent anyone from protecting themselves from the virus.  That's especially true if the wearer is in a high risk category.

Are you worried that you, or someone, may be cited for using medical grade masks?

While I would say that the order is poorly written in many sections, I don't think it's saying what you're trying to get your head around. . .

You have no right to effective PPE when there are doctors and nurses going without!

If they catch you wearing something that looks too effective, they put you in a room with an infected person for an hour.

If you don't catch the virus, they mail you ticket for the $5000 fine.

I bought a box of 20 N95 in 2018 when that was the recommended thing to do on the BI during the eruption.  Vog never came to my area but the bag inside the box was opened and I used a few for wood working.  I could not donate the unused remainder even if I wanted to because the sealed bag inside was opened.  That is what I am using.  I use each mask 3 times to go grocery shopping and to the Post Office before I toss it.  I seriously doubt a cop would cite someone for using it.

You think Honolulu's finest won't argue that there's an "N-95" printed on the mask -- right after the "K"?

Really, though, wearing a bandanna or other cloth other the "medical grade" mask would stop anyone from hassling you --  assuming they are stupid enough to hassle people to begin with!

I've seen "medical protective" KN95 masks that are listed as meeting GB19083-2010.  Took me a while to find out what that standard was for since many places had the info in Chinese.  ???  ;D

Not sure if that makes it "medical grade" per the order's "restrictions" though. . .

What if you work in the medical field and get medical grade masks at work, you cant wear those in public?

The mayor’s aim was to preserve as many n95 masks as possible for those in the medical field.  If tthe general public started wearing n95 masks, the concern is that they’d consume ppe that could otherwise be directed to those on the front lines.

I think if you showed them your medical-related ID card, they'd say it's okay.

The rationale would be/should be -- medical personnel need to be better protected than the general public everywhere, not just at work.   :D

I think it's a recommendation to wear masks, because not everyone can wear a mask due to a medical condition.  Are they going to arrest someone because they can't wear one, potential lawsuit.  I've seen stores that have signs that says "It's LAW to wear a mask when entering the store (Longs) it is not a law, they need to pass a bill for it to become a law.  It's a mandate (think dictator, authoritarian....).

No, there is no exception for medical staff.

It's not a law, and they can't force you to wear one, or force you to not use something that is your property.  Don't know what the big deal is about.  If you get cited the judge will have to throw it out, just like the stay at home fines.

I don't remember Ige declaring Martial Law (correct me if I'm wrong) so I'm assuming these fines should be thrown out.  Just my thoughts, I'm not a lawyer, I could be wrong.

The other issue is it takes time to go to court and wait for your turn.  Gotta take the day off.

A friend of mine just received several surgical masks from his mom.
an ER and ICU nurse,  Got some gloves too.
I had to show him how to take contaminated gloves off
without contaminating yourself.

This whole thing is a JOKE!
I will wear the silly assed blue mask as in Hawaii county they won't let
you in a building without one per our Democrat party mayor  King's orders.
I'm thinking of using my expensive 3M respirator mask with organic
and dust filters just to mess with the idiots.
I makes me look like a SWAT guy.
Except I wear MARPAT green stuff.
The one thing I haven't figured out is how do you buy
a mask if they won't let you in the store to do so?
Hawaii Democrats are 8^.

Another issue is that filtration type masks can restrict air flow.  When combined with tinfoil head shields, may lead to reduced O2 levels reaching the brain. . . Gotta let in the fresh air once in a while.

Get fresh air and let them read your mind...no thanks.
