Dexter-Russell used to make butcher knives in the 1800's that were called "Green River" and marked as such on the blade (near the handle).  It soon became a frontier expression to "go up to Green River," meaning you know what.

Yes, Old Fart, I am old and I used to collect even older stuff.  Now I'm trying to get rid of stuff (slowly).  I DO have a lot of stuff.
I also read a lot and remember what I've read (mostly), unlike a lot of kids nowdays who google stuff on their phones and forget it in 5 minutes, it seems.

I like CCR.  Fogerty was in Vegas a few years ago and I saw the poster outside of the Venetian.  Just so happens my parents were going the following month and I told them about him performing.  They got to go to the concert.

BTW, I'm not as old as you guys, most my age don't know CCR.  I was corrected once by an old timer, "It's not CCR, it's Credence".

Here's the video with lyrics. Some of the scenes remind me of a swamp people episode.

Utage Japanese Restaurant in Dillingham Plaza also serves Green River.

A while back my wife and I had dinner there with my Bil and Sil.  My Bil ordered Green River and I commented on the song by CCR.  He said there is no such song and my Sil and wife agreed there is no such song.  I told them, how old you guys, you no can remember?

Anyway after we ate we went back to the car and as my Bil was driving the song Green River came on the radio by CCR.  I told them I told you you old futs.

When I was a kid I used to go to the local soda fountain located inside Thrifty’s Drug Store. My favorite thing to order? Green River Float.

For those not old enough to know/remember Thrifty’s it was a chain I believe mostly on the west side of the US. But one thing they were well known for was their ice cream. And I believe that Thrifty chocolate ice cream was voted the best throughout the US for many years, if my memory is correct. I preferred their vanilla but thats because I’m racist.   Anyway, a scoop of the vanilla in some Green River Soda was the best! And because they had the syrup I always asked for an extra shot of the Green River Syrup in my float.

Another thing I remember about Thrifty’s was they used to have the only tube tester in town. And they kept it right by the front door. Every time our TV or radio went on the fritz my dad would open up the back and grab all the tubes and we would go down and test them. And of course the tubes that went bad were always the big expensive ones.
