I have been trying for the past week to get a permit to acquire at about 5am when I start work. I just tried and I think I was able to get the only slot available for Oct 12th. Have not gotten my email confirmation yet. Does anyone know when they make the appointments available?
I am posting here so the "Guest" do start blocking out the slots.
-
It's luck of the draw. I got Oct 8th. Missed a couple that had popped up in between but not fast enough on the keyboard to get it
-
Honestly you have to bring up the page on your phone and refresh it as often as possible. The appointments are only available 3 months out from the current date and are updated in real time. If someone cancels that appointment becomes immediately available on the website. I had one for early October, but I just kept refreshing as often as possible throughout the day and I was able to catch a cancelation for this past Monday.

Appointments come up according to time up to 3 months in advance right now. So the Oct 13 slots will come out today July 15 at that particular time.
Ex
- Weds Oct 13 800 ---> Tues July 15 800
- Weds Oct 13 1120 ---> Tues July 15 1120
Slots can disappear in seconds. I constantly refresh the page to see if someone cancels.
Easier on Saturdays for Friday appointments. They last longer.

for maui you call and its about a week out. but damn oct. thats crazy.

Registration is from 8am to 4pm. Since the “Appointments may only be scheduled 90-days in advance,” the system post the listing every 10 minutes, but it depends if the previous appointment registration is for 4 or more. They suggest check/try every 5 minutes and based on the time on your cell phone. I loaded a digital app that shows the seconds. Refresh the screen or on the computer, hit refresh (F5) key, exactly on the time (eg. 3:30) then click on the “Click here to schedule an appointment” or the “Schedule Appointment” in the top right corner. The system returns the available appointment of Oct 29, 3:30.
Select “Firearms: Permit to Acquire – Main Police Station” or “Firearms: Registration of Firearms.” Then select the number of permit or registration: 3 or less, sorry don’t remember the other options. If you are lucky enough to get in and the system returns that a slot is available, you select the appointment.
Then comes the mad race, stress test, you have to input your information. Luckily for me that the computer remembers my previous inputs for name, email address, and phone number that I previously used. I typed my street address into the section and was able to get the permit to acquire appointment. For my registration appointment, I had my street address typed on a word document, highlighted and copied (Ctrl-C) the address, before I started the appointment request process. Then when I got to the address section, I just need to click in the address section and paste (Ctrl-P). I think nest step was to select submit and hurray I got my appointment.
I had inputted 1 acquisition, but put 3 on the registration appointment, hope (more like wish) to for another firearm, since I have the appointment. Not sure if they will allow additions (+1 or +2) to the appointment or will I have to wait another 90 days.
If anyone has a better memory, please update the info that needs to be inputted into the system for the appointments:
First name
Last name
Email address
Phone number
Number of permits(?)
Street address

Huh. That’s funny. I never remember having to go through all this steps before - load an app on my phone, etc etc etc. All I remember was telling my boss I needed time off and just walking in.

New here... Don't know if this has been covered but just to help out if u guys keep getting appts sniped from under u. If u have an updated windows 10 machine (Build 1909) you can use the copy paste history to fill out your forms faster.
To set up:
Click on the start button in lower left of your screen, type settings, then enter
Then click system
Click "clipboard" and turn the clipboard history on.
Open a note pad then type what u want to copy and copy it, one at a time.
If I remember right you will need these copied separately
-First Name
-Last Name
-Phone number
-Email address
-number of handguns
-number of long guns
Home address.
Once u copied them all press the windows (lower left of keyboard) + v and the clipboard history will show.
Now, u gotta get an appointment date. Once you click and the form opens do the following
Click in the first field (First Name) then hit windows button+v then click on your fist name in the history window and it will instantly fill on the form
Click in next field (last name) then hit windows + v then click on your last name in the clip history
Keep doing this until all fields filled then submit. Practice till u can do it fast. It's way faster once u learn how.
I figured this out cause every time I saw a new time, it would disappear before I could finish filling out the form and submit. Got frustrated after about 4x it was sniped from me. Hope this helps someone. PM me if u want help setting this up.
Once u have an appointment, add it to your calendar. Open the details and click on the link. It will open a page u can reschedule. Hit reschedule threw out the day to keep checking for new openings. Once it appears, you can just grab it without filling out the form again. I keep looking every day for cancellations No luck yet but hopefully soon.
If anybody has a married couple or 4 gun appointment soon they want to cancel please let me know.
Good Luck!!
-
If you are arranging an exchange or giving up an appointment, you should do it during off hours, not 8-4, less chance of someone else grabbing it. Best if he texts you when he cancels and then you refresh.

I tried swapping with someone where we were on the phone together when he cancelled and it never popped up as an available appointment. Was trying for a good 45 min straight from when he cancelled it.
I think you have to cancel it the day before and not the day of the appointment. Just sharing my experience.

It's a circus down there. Just went yesterday to acquire a permit for a handgun and there was a line during my time slot. Guy at the front of the line said he had an earlier appointment for "registration" but wanted a "permit" so they told him to wait at the "permit" door. Then the guy in front of me with his wife, bold face lied and said he had the same time appointment as I did for "permits"...although they probably had "registration" also. Yup, they let them go even though 2 cops working there said 2 people can't have the same appointment time for the same thing. There was also a guy behind me that was told to come back from an earlier appointment because he forgot his handgun affidavit. So what would usually take me 5 minutes, took me 45 minutes of waiting for "my appointed time" slot because HPD is not following their own guidelines. Good luck everyone and make sure your reserving the right thing. :shaka:

Probably a dumb question but if I bought out of state and had it shipped to local FFL is that “out of state” or “local acquired” for the registration appointment? Thanks!

If you were the owner before shipping the firearm to a Hawaii FFL, there is no transfer taking place. No need for a permit. Only need to register as "out of state" firearm.
If, however, you bought it out of state while you were a Hawaii resident, and the FFL is transferring ownership from an out of state seller to you, then you need a permit. You will register it like a local sale. The Hawaii FFL will be the "seller" on the HPD permit/registration applications, as the FFL is transferring the firearm to you.

Yes, it’s a 3 month wait for your constitutional god given right to be applied for. In the state of Hawaii. Just sayin! Anyone taking that to court? 1st amendment right don’t need a permit.
Good for statistical purposes as it shows just how many are expressing their right to bear arms. Business is booming and supply can’t keep up with then demand right now.
-
Also even if the firearm is already yours and you are just having it shipped in to an FFL, DO NOT LET THEM OPEN THE PACKAGE. Make sure when shipped it states clearly and largely TO BE OPENED BY ADDRESSEE. If they open the package it must go into their inventory and you will have to go through the acquisition process. Talk to the FFL prior to shipping so they know whats going on.

Got PMs and will followup tomorrow. Thank You, appointment taken.
I have the following appointment that I will not be able to use:
3 or less acquisition on Oct 12th @ 2:40 and
3 or less registration on Oct 26th @ 3:30.
PM me and we can arrange a time for me to cancel my appointment and you can register.
I would suggest off hours, after 4pm or on a Sunday.
-
I'll take them, PM sent
Thanks!
-
Thank you Eric for the appointment to register. Too bad someone sniped the PTA but I was able to find one today that works out fine with the registration date.
-
Had my PTA this morning. Got there 20 minutes before my appointment time and 2 were inside. Waited about 5 minutes and both guys gone. In the 50ish minutes total time I was there, I saw just the 2 ahead of me, 1 guy with me for a pistol permit and nobody waiting when I left. So I'd say in almost an hour, they saw 4 people. And lots of names on the appointment book not scratched off as show ups. Again you have to wonder did anti gun people steal the appointment times just to jam up the system.

They were also pissed that I paid cash. I had exact change. Guess they made up their own internal policy to no longer accept cash. The girl at the counter said as of yesterday they would no longer accept it. Hmmm. Just a FYI for you all.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be there tomorrow to see for myself. I’ve had suspicions that anti-2A people had a hand in the logjam, but I have to think it’s also due to a lot of inconsiderate people that no-show. I’m hoping HPD allows standby walk-ins eventually.
-
At the registration side doing temp check for appointment @ 10, 1 was registering and another picking up his permit.
I have a habit of reading new forms. Temp check form says if you answer yes to any question you cant complete the appointment.
1 guy was already filling out a PTA form. Another guy came in after I left @ 1015.

6 appointments per hour, 8 hour days (8am-4pm), 5 days a week, 13 weeks (90 days) equal 3,120 appointments.
I know there are alot of new gun owners?
Also, if all appointments were for 3, then that would mean 9,360 purchases/registrations?
-
My registration appointment was at 11:05 yesterday. I was out the door at 11:18.

I can’t fathom the thought of wanting a pistol firearm today.
That means if I go to a LGS today and purchase a pistol October, 9th 2020. I will not be able to take it home till next year January, 22nd 2021 that is if my background check clears and assuming the LGS is open on January 22nd. Crazy times we live in. Does that mean everyone on Oahu needs a gun? That’s what it seems like. I’m glad I have everything I need now. “You’ll get your gun next year”. You need to have a lot of patience or you don’t need it now kind of attitude. Absurd very absurd

I say, if there's a handgun purchase that needs to be made, go for it! Disclaimer; I had a PTA reservation on October 30th to fall back on. I went with a friend from work to SEC on September 9th. He was next on the list for a Gen 5, Glock 17 MOS and one came in for him, on hold for one day, to purchase. SHOUTOUT to Security Equipment!, I see these things going for $800 on Gun Broker but their price was $640. I also ended up buying a handgun ;D. The following Sunday, I decided to try for an earlier reservation and got one for both me and my friend for September 14 and 15. We applied and picked up our handguns on September 30th. I tried a few times every night to get a reservation to register, then on Tuesday night I got a reservation for Wednesday morning, October 7th.
Yeah, the systems sucks, but I was able to purchase a handgun, acquire it and register it in less than a month. So don't let the system stop you from purchasing a firearm.

HPD loves the appointment system due to these reasons:
1) It puts a cap on how many people can apply for or register a gun. This makes it harder for people to complete these activities, discouraging people from making purchases. HPD does not want more guns in the hands of the citizens.
2) This cap on signups also puts a limit on how much work they need to do in an hour. All they need to do is prepare to do work for however many slots are available per hour. This effectively allows them to parcel their work in bite size chunks. In the past, 20 people could show up per hour, which adds pressure and makes them have to hustle, something they certainly don't want to complete. This is no more due to the appointment system, making their job easier.
No one should be surprised that the antis are making false appointments. There are no penalties so what's to stop them from doing this unethical behavior.

A couple of months ago I got a registered letter (I had to pick it up from the post office the next morning because I wasn't at home to accept it) from HPD informing me I missed my appointment to register. I called them to inform them that I didn't miss my appointment, which was pretty easy to prove. They apologized. If there are a lot of missed appointments, HPD must be spending a lot on mail.
-

I also registered a Polymer 80 pistol frame with my long gun permit at the same time . . . no drama
-
Went down today with cuz to see if he can give his registration appointment to me (it's a later date). Was told we both have to be present on the day of and they can't do anything on the comp then and there. So boo birds on that :grrr:
-
Do you think we have enough people unable to get a registration time to sue the city? For breaching our 2nd amendment rights? I would be willing to donate to that.
-
Do you need a receipt from a local FFL in order to get a permit to acquire, or can you use the receipt/confirmation notification from the gunbroker seller?
I can get the make and serial from the auctioner, easily, but i don't think i can get the firearm to a local FFL before the appointment.

If you're buying from GunBroker (or any out of state seller), you need to wait until the FFL receives the gun. Your FFL needs to send paperwork to HPD. Technically, ownership is being transferred from your FFL to you. They will be listed as the seller/transferor on your permit application.
Until your FFL takes possession, they won't be able to provide HPD the right paperwork, nor verify for you the serial number and specs match what the seller provided to you..

Nope, buy something or cancel it.

The permit application requires a serial number and description of the firearm if it's a pistol. Long gun permits are good for a year and for as many rifle and shotguns as you wish to buy/afford. Pistol permits are only good for specifically listed pistols on the application.
If you are buying from a private seller, you can get the info and take that to HPD without any money changing hands. It's a good idea to verify the information you have is correct at the same time you meet to inspect the gun.
If buying from a retailer/FFL, you must first pay for the firearm. They are going to set your gun aside so that pistol and no other will be delivered to you when you bring in the permit. When you pay for the gun, the retailer will print you a receipt with the information that goes on the permit application.
So, unless you find a specific handgun to buy between now and your appointment, you won't be able to complete the permit application.
Maybe you could keep the appointment to do a "COVID-19 Mask Audit" at the police station?

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of trading with a friend who has a later date so I can figure shit out. Also skeptical of joining rap back. The more I read into it the worse it looks. The FBI and the state get to have my picture and biometrics for life in an unregulated system they can do anything they want with..... that sounds beyond sketch. But is that worth giving up my 2nd ammendment rights for my 14th ammendment. Ideally repback will be canceled when they find it unconstitutional. But that might be a long time from now.

Permit to Acquire:
Made appointment on 07/16 for 10/14
Got email reminder last week
10/11 appointment reminder text
10/13 appointment reminder email
10/14 9am appointment reminder email
You need to go to the Registration side to have your temperature checked. They confirm that you have an appointment listed on their printout. Take your temperature and write it on a form that you fill out and return, they then sign off on the form. You then take the form with you, with your other forms and to the Permit to Acquire side. When you get to the window, they ask you if you have an appointment and check their printout.
Funny, I had an 11am appointment, but there were three others already in there (sign say only 2 allowed). At 11:10 when one completed and left, they signaled to me to enter and go to the window. I presented my forms, sign them and filled out the application at the window. While I was completing my form, another person entered and said he had a 11:20 appointment. Guess the 11:10 was a no show, unless they took him before I got there before 11.
-
Does anyone know what the appointment "EXTENDED HOURS" are?
I tried at 5pm today and the 10/22 5pm appointment was available, but like the deer in the bush, got a glimpse and then it was gone before I could enter anything.
-
Hey Eric, I just snagged a registration appointment for 6:20 p.m. I don't know how late they're staying to, but I think it's good they're finally trying to accommodate the demand.
-
Thank JC. It looks like it stops at 6:50, but I was not able to confirm, since at 6:50, system returns unavailable. Tried at 7:00 and 7:10, unavailable.
"EXTENDED HOURS" are probably 4-6pm.
-
I was able to get two appointments in the "EXTENDED HOURS" for Oct 22:
Permit to acquire @ 5:40
Registration @ 4:10
Message me and we can arrange a time for me to cancel and you apply for the appointment.
I would suggest off hours, before 8am and after the "EXTENDED HOURS" 7pm or Sunday.
