Bring at least 1 Rifle with scope! I can't believe 10 guys show up and no one had any guns with a scope. only red dots!!!
Hitting a 1/2 lbs can of Tannerite at 100 yards with open sights is like well...challenging. (3" round jar 3" high)

Was testing a lot of customers guns. Function testing. Not my job to see if they sighted in.
All guns with scopes that were sighted in were 22LR which dont set off tannerite.
Also you do not want this stuff close to you. 1lb shakes the groung already!
But live and learn! next time.
Next time....we will lay out 50 cans of tannerite and have a 8 man slide fire shoot off!!!!!!!

I hear ya. Glass is my friend. I'm debating whether I should drill 'n tap an ancient Remington Sportmaster for scope mounts. I picked that gun up just 'cause it was like the very first .22 I ever shot back in 1946. Rifle cost me $65, so I won't be "destroying its collector value," but tapping it for scope mounts will probably cost more than the rifle did in the first place. Even with my old eyes, the thing shows a good potential for accuracy.
Putting a scope on a defensive handgun is ridiculous, but I put Crimson Trace lasers on both of my main carry guns, a 5-shot snubnose (summer) and my 1911 (winter). One advantage with the laser sights is that one can shoot from down low, almost like hip shooting, so the flash won't temporarily blind you if (G-d forbid) the need to defend yourself in the dark ever occurs.
I don't know if you guys can use your ranges in the dark, but I can turn off the lights at my indoor range, and the first time I did this I was amazed at the brilliant fireball that comes out of that snubby when you get dark-adapted.(http://gunrightsmedia.com/images/smilies/shocker.gif)!

Somebody at the Remington company up in Ilion, NY, knew what the hell they were doing when they designed that gun.
It was a sleek, sexy, well-designed, well-balanced rifle for the middle-class rifleman, with a nice long sight radius (barrel = 25 inches), a nice wide open trigger guard for sunny-day winter squirrels with gloves on (the hunter, not the squirrels), and a tubular mag which held 15 .22 LRs or a couple of thousand .22 shorts (kidding!), Talk about high-capacity magazines! The sights were, ahhhh, kind of fundamental, but several folks have put scopes on them.
As I mentioned, it was the first powder-actuated gun I ever shot in that long-past day in ~1946-1948 and even unto today, the exhaust smell of a .22 brings back a vivid memory of that first shot at an empty .22 box. Yes, I hit it, having had a lot of prior practice with my BB guns.
When I bought it, I had phoned the gun shop ahead of time to find out what they had, and when I went down there to look it over I brought a borelight and a bore snake. The guy said it was OK to wipe down the bore, and when I looked into it, the bore looked like a friggen mirror. It had a piece missing from the plastic butt plate, but what the hell, for $65 I couldn't count the money out fast enough. Since this was Denver, I had brought along a gun case to carry it back to my car about a block away.
One other thing about it is with that long barrel, it's pretty quiet.
Pardon the ramble, but I sure love that gun.
Still thinking about mounting a scope on it. I wishy-washy back and forth on that decision, though.

I know what you mean about having some admiration for a particular long gun. I love my Marlin/Glenfield Model 60. I bought it in 1988 if I remember correctly. It is a 1982 model. The store I bought it from was going out of business and had it at a discount. It is accurate out to 100yds with that cheap ass scope I have on it. My only complaint is the trigger. I did a little work on it getting it to about 5lbs. It shoots best with CCI Blazer which is not expensive ammo. I couldn't tell you how many rounds have gone through it.

I put a nice laminate thumbhole stock on it. I put an adjustable target trigger and aluminum trigger guard on it as well as a new hold open bolt. The stock was about $80 and the other parts were about $90. I also replaced a couple of springs and "c" clips. I bought a Speedee loader for it and that is one great accessory. I have not owned a 10/22 and I doubt I ever will. I already bought the picatinny rail and rings for it. I have a nice Nikon ProStaff scope on my Anschutz target .22. I am thinking of buying a BSA Sweet 22 scope for it and putting the Nikon on the Marlin. The BSA is on sale for only $50 at Natchez. It is a $150 scope. I decided when my eyes started going that I would a scope on every long gun I own. The problem started when I bought the Nikon and then a Leupold as they spoiled me on good optics. Now I can't stand that cheap scope on the Marlin and it deserves better since it shoots so well.

Where'd you get the stock for it? I would reckon finding a tube magazine stock would be difficult. So what'd you do, inlet it yourself?

The stock is from Boyd's Gun Stocks. They do a run for the Marlin Model 60 like once a year. So no inletting necessary. But the stock comes unfinished so I had to sand some and finish it myself. They have some stocks that are factory finished. They have some great colors like the camo is great looking. Also look at the evolution stock they have now for the Model 60 with tube feed. The other mods are from DIP Products.
There are a couple of other Marlin 60/70/7x fanatics on this board. And for your rifle I can suggest trying rimfirecentral.com. Best rimfire specific forum on the net.

^ I may send them an e-mail --their customer request form doesn't seem to want to load right on my machine. I'm halfway looking for a wood stock for my Remington Nylon 11, which is the detachable-magazine-fed* bolt action version of the Nylon 66 (which was semiauto).

^That's not my rifle and it's not clear why he had to wait two years for it from the video. But that's what the Model 11 is.
The "Zytel" nylon stock is supposed to have a lifetime guarantee on it, but I've gone through one already and now this one needs replacing. Nine lives - two lives = 7. Good thing I've got 7 lives left over.
I inquired of Remington about a new stock (buttplate fell off) a year or so ago but I got no answer from them. What I want to do now is get a new Zytel nylon stock and keep it in reserve, but use a wood stock so I can put a sling on it. I like that rifle (sure is easy to carry around the woods), but it's handicapped by two things --one is you can't put a sling on it and two is you have to remove the pinned-in barrel to take the action out of the stock.

Hey Terry,
I would suggest you contact Boyds and ask if they ever do a run of stocks for your rifle. Up until last year they never put the stock for my marlin up on their website even though they made a limited run every year.

I shot them a regular e-mail, but as of this moment they haven't replied --not that I expected them to so soon.
I offered to send them my old nylon stock for a pattern if they wanted it and would send it back. However, I suspect, without doing any research on it, that almost any clip-fed Remington rifle stock would do. A lot of them are pretty similar due to manufacturing simplicity, but they're the stock experts. I'm not looking for any fancy woodwork, just a pine 2X4 whittled out with a hatchet would suit me just fine. Well, maybe a Dremel tool would help, too.
