Until they can come up with a more PC / more ethnically and racially sensitive name for the team, the Washington Redskins have temporarily changed their name to
Washington Football Team.
I wonder how much they paid the marketing firm for that? :rofl:
in this politically messed-up period, it's not going to be easy to find a name that doesn't offend, trigger, enrage or otherwise piss off someone.

My Ex was born in DC and raised in Bethesda, MD. She's been a Redskins fan since forever.

I always tell people, "I kept the kids in the divorce, and she kept the Redskins." I was never a fan -- except by marriage.
After the split, I have 2 favorite teams now: The Dallas Cowboys (rivals) and whoever is playing the Redskins that week! >:D

As for the Native American opinions, I've seen polling that shows the Native Americans could not care less about professional sports team mascots. Changing the name does absolutely nothing to help their people or to right any wrongs the US gov't may have been responsible for.
It's mostly white millennials who think THEY know better what offends minorities. They want to tear down whatever they find "offensive by proxy.", just like the statues. :wacko:

I love watching football, but I am a fan of who is playing for a team. I liked the Broncos after Peyton moved there, but did not watch him before then. This year I have 3 teams I plan to watch if there is a season, Dolphins, TB Bucs and LV Raiders because I want all their QBs to do well.

If we go with that, then the team should not even have Washington NOR DC in their name. Their stadium, FedEx Field (which was originally Jack Kent Cooke Field), is in Prince George's County, Maryland. The stadium was built to finally replace the too old & too small JFK Stadium in DC. They have no ties now with DC other than past history.
You don't see teams that moved to another city or state still called by their former locations -- ever. Teams that move not only changed the city in their name, but some also changed their team name/mascot in the move. For instance, the San Diego Chargers are now the Los Angeles Chargers. It would be silly to keep San Diego in their name, right? Just like keeping Washington for this new team would be silly.
if they want to really create a new brand, they ought to change to something completely divorced of their old name in all respects.
Since they play at FedEx Field, maybe they can be the Unidentified Professional Sports Team, or UPS Team. :rofl:
Fun fact: UPS is the largest private employer in Prince George's County.

That's been my attitude about pro sports my whole life. I didn't grow up in a state that had a pro team for any sport, so college was the big thing then. After marrying a "The Team Formerly Known as The Redskins" fan, I tried to get into the sport, but it was just not going to happen.
Come to think of it, "The Team Formerly Known as The Redskins" has a lot of promise! There's a precedence, too. :rofl:
