ATF agent killed due to accidental discharge

Suspicious circumstances if you ask me. Did he shoot himself or was he shot by someone else? Article wasn’t 100% clear.
-
Yup real fishy....
Betcha it will be “determined” it was “his” fault. Can’t expect the cops to admit anything....would love to be proved wrong though.... :wtf:
-
They could kill EVERY ATF agent and I would not shed
a tear.
I feel sorry for his family.
That is it.
-
True accidental discharges are extremely rare.
More likely a negligent discharge, but there's really no way to know unless someone 'fesses up.
Hopefully the estate sues for wrongful death so more facts can come to light.
Obviously the gun was the cause. Common sense gun control NOW!!

some thoughts should be kept to yourself
-
Was there not a video a few years back of some alphabet agency coming into a classroom as the "expert" on firearms to demonstrate how dangerous they were. Then he cranked off a round while diddling around with his weapon.
"F" troop as they are known, strikes again. Apparently the dumbest of a pack of federal cops.

I wanna know if he had any association with the Clintons...
-
I'm guessing someone shot him as it's difficult to shoot yourself fatally and accidentally with a rifle. Prepping for or recovering from a joint mission? Inspecting confiscated rifles and one was loaded? Unrelated patrol officer just let loose a round? Police officer's have lax muzzle discipline overall.

Robtmc
I belive he was FBI. If it was the big black guy who shot himself in the leg

Guessing this is the part you don't really mean.

I did not see it mentioned on the 5PM news yesterday, but may have missed it. Did anyone see it on any TV news broadcast?

Looked it up, he was DEA, the other mongrel alphabet agency.

Not to mention some would be candidates. At least the moron did not have a magazine in, but who knows what was in the chamber.

I remember in basic training at the live fire range the order was given: CLEAR YOUR WEAPONS!.
The trainee next to me charged his weapon, took out his magazine, then pulled the trigger. His muzzle was pointed in the air. It discharged a round. The Drill sergeant was next to him.
I'll let you guys imagine what happened next to this poor trainee. I never saw a Drill Sergeant with a more redder face with eyes bulging out like golf balls. The Drill Sergeant was also 6'3" and a State Wrestling Champion in High School.

shot himself in the leg too if I remember correctly

My bad rob.
Thanks

That is a horrible thing for a family, so I do mean it.
kids with no father, parents with no son, a wife with
no husband is a tragedy.
I despise the ATF and think they should have been
eliminated years ago. They are considered the
lowest form of cop life.

Still would have to press the trigger. It's possible but not likely.

I don't see the problem. After pulling the trigger, his weapon was clear -- as instructed. :geekdanc:

How come we haven't seen more media coverage of this?
I found the MauiNews and his obituary/tribute page.
Am I missing something?
Seams like it would be a big story.

Same as Vegas shooter. You dont hear nothing, then several months later you'll have a scape goat, story is neat and clean, there will be only 1 story, the coverup story.

The YouTubes are going crazy with a former beat cop in the Ala Moana district who felt the need to bug out of the islands and started a YouTube series on the Miske case.

Didn't look like it.
IIRC it is safe, fire, and rock and roll.
Looked like Fire.
IIRC
Every time I qualified, touched a gun, or worked on certain
aircraft there was a guy behind or nearby with a
gun to shoot me if I made a mistake.
Maybe the Army guys are a little more
lax?

-
The rifle is on fire but the Army clearing procedure as recently as 2000 was to drop the mag, pull the charging handle, inspect the chamber, and then drop the hammer. And once the hammers dropped the rifle can't be put on safe. The trigger is looking pretty far back in the trigger guard. I can't defend putting your melon in front of the barrel but at least there might be one less screw up than is obvious.
-
Maybe it was just YOU?
Maybe you never worked around Nukes.
When they go Boom bad things happen.

Just kidding.
Your comment reminded me of the Swordfish scene when Hugh Jackman first meets John Travolta & has to crack a DoD site with a guy behind him with a gun ... not to mention other major distractions!

"line of duty"
Right. He was taking down bad guys inside the polices station.
-
In the military (or at least when I was in it) the squad leaders would tell the team leaders to have the men clear their weapons. And the team leaders ultimately will be responsible for the squad clearing their weapons.
I can see your sidearms locked and loaded while in the office, but are rifles necessary to be locked and loaded in the office? Even if it is evidently the safety was off. Or was there a reason for it to be turned off? Hmmmmmm…….
Seems like there was a laxed atmosphere that has been the norm for some time. Or something happened that they will eventually find out but will never be made public.

I agree with Zippz.
From the minimal coverage, sounds like was shot by someone else.
Again, that’s the coverage we get on a Federal agent shot and killed in a police station in our State? :wtf:

The rule of any PD in Hawaii is...
It’s none of our business.. period... :worship:

News articles that use the passive voice throughout are frustrating. The writers are (1) poorly educated in proper writing, and/or (2) trying to gloss over the details.
"MPD and ATF said in a news release that ATF Special Agent John Bost III died July 28 at the Kihei Division office after being wounded by a rifle that was accidentally discharged".
Notice he was wounded BY A RIFLE. The rifle was obviously able to discharge itself, since the writer failed to make this an active sentence, such as "another officer accidentally discharged the rifle..."
The closest they come to reporting he died at the hands of another is using the word "Shooting" in the title, excluding the expected "self-inflicted" description, and saying "after being accidentally shot", which implies that being shot requires someone else to do the shooting.
Real journalism is dead. This kind of writing reminds me of the censors in Good Morning, Vietnam! with Robin Williams. Narrative is everything. Truth? Meh.
-
Thanks Surfmaster for a little light on it.
“A special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, a federal law enforcement agency, died last month after being accidentally shot in a Maui Police Department office.
MPD and ATF said in a news release that ATF Special Agent John Bost III died July 28 at the Kihei Division office after being wounded by a rifle that was accidentally discharged. An initial investigation shows it was “an accidental line of duty death.”
No additional information about the circumstances of the shooting was publically released.“
Maybe that’s all the information that was publicly released.
Might the MPD and ATF info. Not the writers.
How can no other info. be released?
Oh. Yeah.
It’s none of our business.. period.

The plot thickens

So, the ATF agent was "accidentally killed" by a Maui Police Officer. Then an officer (possibly the same one) is "suicided".
Nothing to see here. Move along .....
:wtf:

Anyone know former HPD Officer Doug Korenic? He's spilling the beans in the Kealoas and Miske case on YouTube. He says he was getting threats from other cops and bailed to Michigan. He's got a podcast going about his time in the HPD and all the juicy gossip.

But, but, but, they are so highly trained and trusted that they may stay armed at all times.
Not for you though, you unskilled and untrustworthy peasant.

If anyone wants to make a Hawaii version of the movie Fargo we have plenty of material to work with now.

Howsit everybody! Just to clarify, I was never threatened by officers. I have been threatened by Mike Miske supporters, but never any cops. I never saw any corruption at HPD, (apparently the Kealoha stuff was going on at the time) I know you didn’t mean anything by it. All G. I do have a podcast episode with Michael Botello about the 2nd amendment and Hawaii’s gun laws tho. Mahalos! Be safe out there!

Cool of you to stop by, Doug. I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for clarifying and take care!
