Sensory overload.  A lot of brand stores.  Stores that pretty much only carry a single brand.

3 food courts (makai market, shirokiya japan village walk and the lanai) and a lot of restaurants and food kiosks
foodland farms is all by itself on the piikoi side
there's a ramp that goes from the ala moana parking lot to the target parking

It's a place where the stores have names that makes you go  ???.

It's a place where when you look in the store there is nobody there.  Maybe one.  Lucky 2.  The sales clerks are dressed like they are going to a Royal Wedding.  Even the security guard wears a suit.

It's a place where tons and tons of people are walking the mall.  And the only places that are crowded is the Apple Store, Macy's, and the food courts.

And it houses probably the last Bookstore on Oahu that offers tons of reading material while allowing you to browse and read at your leisure.

Not anywhere near what it was like "back in the day", or even say 2-3 years ago.  Before COVID, I would go occasionally to shop and for restaurants.  Used to hit up some of the bars for happy hour, but not in many years.

Shirokiya is in the basement now, but I like the vibe better down there.

I remember the shops on the top floor above the center stage being like that.

That figures, I need to go to the Apple Store. I haven't been to Kahala Mall for several years. What's it like?  ;D

Never actually went in past the Sears on the SW corner.   When I lived in east Honolulu, I avoided downtown like the plague.

I gather Joni Mitchell does not approve of it, some say.

I remember my mom buying me clothes from The Ritz, Liberty House, Kramers, Pennys (don't remember the JC) and Sears. I remember buying tropical fish from Birdland. I still have 22LR ammo from Honsport.

Similar for me, but from Pearlridge.  I still have lots of ammo with Honsport price tags from my dad's stash.  Even one of his revolvers has the pricing info written on the box.  Those were some good prices back in the day.   ;D

Foodland has pretty good bentos, poke, pizza, sandwiches, etc
If you gotta go spectrum, kahala mall is less crowded than ala moana

I used to go to Ala Moana to buy silk shirts to go Disco Nightclubbing.

Most of my Angel Flights were from Kramers, Russells, or McInerney's.

Disco, silk shirts, and Angel Flights.  Those were the days.....

Nowadays we go to Ala Moana to eat.  And only if we happen to be around that area.

I spent all that time in the early to late 70's  fixing USAF aircraft and I married the girl next door.
No silk for me.
