Title: Non carbide Lee 9mm dies
Post by: tim808 on October 02, 2020, 10:41:27 AM
My friend is letting me borrow his 9mm Lee die set.

Says they are non carbide.  I did a quick google and didn’t find any non carbide Lee 9mm dies.  I’m guessing the dies are about 10 years old.

Did/does lee make non carbide 9mm dies?  I’m wondering if he just forgot.

I’ll find out tomorrow if any of the cases get stuck :-)

There is a way to tell if the sizing die is a carbide die. I believe if you look at the bottom of the die you will see that it looks like it it sleeved. I believe that sleeve is the carbide insert. I checked my Lee pistol dies and they all have what looks like a sleeve inserted into the die body. When I check my Lee Rifle dies there is no sleeve apparent since they are not carbide. I also checked my very old non carbide pistol cartridge dies and they do not have the sleeve either.

I hope this helps.

I couldn't help firing an H&I shot at Inspector. It's bèen a while.

But he is correct, my carbide Lee 9mm die shows a ring around the mouth and even has that pokey thing in the middle.

Those panic buyers should have picked something else....like a baseball bat.
No need powder, primers, bullets.
A good hit with a bat delivers a little more energy than a round of 45 ball.
No need permit or registration.

No need permit - for now...

Pretty soon all sharp objects will be banned - you know 'for the children'..  we'll all be eating with sporks.

Baseball bats are exempt because it is not a sharp object.
It's also a remarkable visual deterrent.

What movie was that with Deniro walking around the table?

I still have my first set of RCBS 9mm dies from over 40 years ago. Non carbide of course. Plus they are guaranteed NOT to take out the “Glock Bulge”. They are almost an antique. I wonder what they would bring on eBay?
