Occasionally, I run across some ridiculously overpriced gun and it makes me laugh.
I wonder, have any of you seen some "winners"?

It's important to know whether it has a sliding or a rotating safety. The early sliding ones could slip back and forth betweeen "S" and "F" very easily with casual handling. Very dangerous going either way They corrected this by changing it to a rotating safety.
I got one in a "batch sale" a long time ago. It has its uses. I keep mine in a handy hidy place as a BUBUBUG ("Back Up Back Up Back Up Gun") but I didn't trust the sliding saftey on it, so I disabled the safety and will not keep a round in the chamber. I took it down to the range about a year ago just fer grins and it seems reliable and reasonably accurate for its sights. Let's remember it is not intended to be fired 10,000 rd, like a Kimber or something like that --it's more of a dance-hall-girl's garter gun.
With the box and other stuff (although I hate that "holster" shown, with the open trigger cut-out) it might be worth $300 to someone since it's supposedly unfired. Let's face it, even poor folks and dance-hall-girls have a right to self defense, and the .25s are really concealable.
I'd think maybe $200 would be a lowball starting point for negotiation, if I were interested in it. If.
$150 if it has a sliding safety.
I had a real estate broker tell me once that "If a house doesn't sell, raise the price --you get a better class of lookie-lous that way." I was never sure if he was kidding or not. But let's also face it, any commodity is worth what someone will pay for it in an arm's length legal deal.
I also suspect the .25ACP is just as powerful as a .22LR in a short barrel like that, but I never confirmed that and don't really want to.
It at least allows one to say, "I have a gun, get back!"
What happens after that is anyone's guess.

Frankly, I think just about every handgun selling over $300, new or used, is ridiculously overpriced.

If that is a later evolution of the Baby Browning, I'd say it is overpriced. We have one, and it is a nasty, snappy little thing. Maybe good for intimidation value, but not so much of that. .25 ACP not much bigger than a .22 LR.

Frankly, I think just about every handgun selling over $300, new or used, is ridiculously overpriced.
I feel the same way. That's why I got my c&r. Although I will admit, after getting my first those real high end expensive ones look mighty appeasing as well.

True local story. I went to a garage sale and this guy had a REAL OLD BB Gun for sale $75.00. I was looking at it and we got to talking and he mentions he has a Wilson Combat .45 for sale. He tells me it does not have a model number but it had the date on it, 1996. So I look it up and while I am not 100% sure it is probably an A2 model. Not their high end model and the first year they made their own frame and slide. I found only 3 sales and one that never sold. Two sales are under $1,000 and one stainless for $1,200. The one that didn't sell was like $1,800. He said he took it to a local gunsmith who told him it was in great shape and worth $2,500.00 and that is what he wants for it. I don't have the heart to tell him what it is worth.

Putting aside the laws of economics and the principle of supply and demand, I certainly think there are handguns worth more than $300 in terms of material, quality and sophistication but a lot of them aren't. Is a polymer handgun with more plastic than my nephew's death ray gun really worth the $460+tax?

Purely for the materials, I would say no. But the finished product is a different story. Who really knows the cost of design and manufacturing? There's also other things factored into overhead like payroll, rent, insurance, utilities, etc. Then again, we all know their profits are huge so they could probably charge a lot less per firearm.

The next AR I want without optics is about 2400. Add another 1400+ dollars for a few more accessories and optics.

My most expensive gun to date is $800 on a secondhand Beretta 686 Onyx. And, I have to admit, it was hard, hard for me to pull out the credit card for that, despite it being a screamingly good deal.

Knights Armament makes some pretty sick guns though :P. Coatings are not cheap either. Just the EoTech and Magnifier break 1100. I wanted to send my AK to Rifle Dynamics, but its a 1 year wait right now. That probably will not get any better, but I was just like damn!!!

Damn. All of my ARs have been over $1000 and the 1911 that I want is around $1400 (SA TRP). Yeah, I can find a 1911 that runs at around $500-600 or so, but I would then spend money on stuff like grips, sights, action spring, etc. I'd rather spend more money up front than go through all that.
But I know what you mean. My first handgun was an HK USP compact that I bought for around $600 almost 15 years ago. Now they sell for around $1000. Everything is more expensive nowadays.

It's just that the dollar isn't buying as much as it used to due to devaluation. Look at the price of food nowadays.

Price, and an individual's perception of price or value provided by a certain product, depends on a number of factors, most notably the Buyer's perspective/preference, the Buyer's discretionary income, and supply/demand of the product.
I think we can all agree that while the price of a product may seem ridiculous to one individual, that same price may seem totally acceptable to another individual.
Now, go forth and start stimulating the economy... because god knows our economy could use the assistance!! :)

Izanagi, I don't think you are a moron. It's your money and your prerogative how you use it. dubya hit the bullseye when he said that it's a matter of perception.
For me, $1800 on half a gun is ridiculously overpriced. I'd rather buy 3 more WWII battle rifles, or 2800 rounds of M2 ball ammo from CMP. For you, it's halfway to a dream. You probably don't understand why anyone would fill their safe with obsolete rifles and 70 year old ammo.
We can both look at each other and roll our eyes, and try each other's "silly" guns when we meet at the range!
