I'm gonna build myself a 10/22 and I'm wondering where to start. I know I want a longer barrel and new stock. I was thinking of going with a green mountain 20" or "24 or "28 and a new stock. Im trying not to spend that much on the pair. $150 for the barrel and $80 for a houge black stock I found the deals at www.shootersdiscont.com (http://www.shootersdiscont.com)

I know "28 is extreme but I'm interested to see the results
Please add .22 cents on this

How far are you trying to shoot?

Standard 50 maybe if I get good enough 100

Check out Boyd's Evolution Stocks for your 10/22. Beautiful laminate in some very cool colors. They come finished for $99.00.

Awesome I'm gonna grab a EVO the loudest color combo possible. Anybody have any fitting issues with them?

I have not heard of any fitting issues.

.22lr gets it's maximum velocity in a 16" barrel. Anything longer, and the powder is all burned up and drag actually lowers the muzzle velocity. If you're shooting in matches with iron sights, the longer sight radius of a 28" barrel might be an advantage (which is why match rifles back in the day had such long barrels), but if you're scoping it, go with a 16" bull barrel.
-
Odd thing is the don't offer iron sites on their longer barrels. I would love to keep iron sites but can't find a barrel that supports it

Scroll down for:
TS157 .920 Barrel Dovetail Adaptor allows the use of TSR100 & TSR200 sighting systems to be used with .920 target barrel equipped 10/22s. The adaptor is a slip fit over the end of the barrel and is locked in place with thread lock compound. The adaptor is machined from 4140 alloy steel with manganese phosphate finish and has a 3/8" dovetail.

Thanks good looking out I can go long barrel and keep iron sites

I have a butler creek bull barell and stock combo. I put a leopuld 3x9 scope and a harris bi-pod on it and I can plink the silhouettes at 100 yards all day. With a little kentucky windage i can hit the targets at 200 yards. One of the best things I have done is the valquartsen trigger. Highly recommend it because it Drastically improves the rifle. Your options are unlimited.
To change it up and keep things interesting I just ordered a pro mag nomad stock and I had x-ring cut my stock barrel to 16" and thread the end to 1/2 x28. Not sure whether I'm going to put a fake suppressor or just a simple AR flash hider on the barell.

Nice setup, do you think the longer barrel will affect distance? Id like to be able to hit the 100 yard plates. I can get a 20" barrel for $100. Any one know cheap sites for the barrel and stock.
-
x2 Volquartsen trigger, auto bolt release, and extended mag release which I'm not sure about because I've dropped the mag out a couple times by accident. Also the trimags are pretty cool. Thinking about a folding stock next.

18" barell is good enough for a .22. After all it's a .22LR. You biggest problem will be bullet drift from the wind. You're not going going to be sniping anything over 100 yards with a .22LR. I have a very old target .22LR that got from my dad. I believe it has a 20" barell and that thing is very accurate with open sights. While a gun my be good, it's the shooter that makes the gun not the gun that makes the shooter. That should start some controversy.

None. I love my thumbhole stock!
Also, recommend checking out Kidd trigger, bolt, bolt buffer, etc. They have great stuff, but not cheap. http://www.coolguyguns.com/ (http://www.coolguyguns.com/)

Yeah the Kidd trigger set is on sale right now. I'm picking up a 10/22 next week. What's a good first mod thats cheap? I heard something about buffer pins.
-
Buffer pin is a must. We have those.

Here's my 10/22 with VQ receiver, KIDD bolt and trigger with a 19" GM heavy taper barrel.

That's sexy, I talked to Kidd and they are willing to do my trigger job stage 1 for $105 labor, parts and shipping. if I send in the trigger assembly and they will return it in 3 days. Is it worth it to have them do the extended mag release and the bolt catch too?
