Reading the paper this morning.
Apparently the BI is getting concerned about established populations of feral rabbits in Kona and Waimea.
3 or 4 groups identified.
They’re gonna use a grant to hire contract hunters.
I was thinking just call some of the boys from here and point ‘em in the direction.
Problem solved for free.
Perfect use for my 17hmr.

I keed, I keed.
Prairie dogs is one hunt that I've always wanted to try. A few buddies in MT have some super elaborate rigs. It's basically a pivoting shooting bench where they roll out to the field and then sit there and shoot them "dawgs" all day.
Predator and pest control is a hunt I'd be down to try. Pigs in TX, nutria in TX and LA (I think), coyotes in a buddies farms in MT, etc.

But the state has its list of " preferred vendors" they always use.
They just get 3 quotes to follow protocol

Why is it ok to pursue a grant to deal with feral rabbits but not feral cats?
Btw...I don't hate cats. Just wondering... The rabbits probably taste better. Too bad they don't do something with the meat after these eradications.

there's a lot more support for feral cats than rabbits.
In my neighborhood I read that one of the feral cat feeders created a false flag event after I complained about her placing piles of cat food on our private landscaping. She apparently said one of her feral cats was "lynched" but only showed a mound of dirt when she buried it.
These feral cat feeders have lobbying efforts as well.

The BI has an non profit organization called AdvoCATS that tries and deals with the feral cat problem. Mostly through capture, spay/neuter and release. They notch one of the ears so they know if they have been fixed or not. My wife and I help them through fundraising and personal donations. Then my wife volunteered at a no kill shelter called Rainbow Friends and also volunteered to do something called a Neuter Scooter where they round up abandoned dogs and cats and neuter them then try to adopt them out.

I don’t know why I could shoot a rabbit, but would have a hard time shooting a cat.
I’d pop a chicken though.
