Does automovite stores carry Loctite? Also can anyone recommend any good scopes for a .22 LR rifle? I have a Savage MKII rifle and thinking about mounting a scope on it.

Yep most auto stores carry lock tite. If you want stupid strong hold use Hondabond

Yes. Home improvement stores carry them too.

If youre on the leeward side we have a lot of scopes good for 22's and very reasonable prices. We also sell blue threadset for a very good price.

I have a lot of experience with mounting scopes on .22's. I would suggest you do not use tip off rings (rings designed to mount directly to the dovetail on the receiver). I found you will have ring and/or scope walking problems. Do your self a favor and either get a picatinny rail designed for the .22 dovetail along with real rings or you can use a nice .22 mount such as something like this:

The mount is only a suggestion and is for example only. I have no personal experience with it. I prefer to use an extended picatinny rail that clamps down instead of the sides of the dovetail and I prefer Warne Rings. With this set up I can place the scope at the proper distance for me instead of compromising on distance due to the limited amount of travel on the dovetail. I use the blue loctite as I like to be able to remove the scope easily if necessary.

I wouldnt use locktite on your scope ring for .22lr. Just not enough recoil to looen the screws if properly torqued. If its comming loose get better rings. I have never used lock tight on any of my rings (22lr, 6mm, 308, 30-06), I've never had the rings get loose. Picatinny type rail is also a better mounting platform for removing and replacing, and returning to zero, or close to it. BLUE lock tight the rail onto the receiver.
Do not let red locktight anywhere near a firearm.

I would only locktite the screws for the base. Never the rings.

Thanks for the info guy mahalo!

I got my BLUE Loctite at Home Depot while I was getting wood for my frames. I think it was around $5-6?

+1 on mounts
I like the look of a mount vs rings/risers. It's also a one piece unit so there's less room for error. I'm using the Primary Arms AR-15 mount on my M&P 15-22

We sell it for half that price!

+1 on the looks as well.
The advantage of the mount or the extended rail is that it allows you to push the scope farther out for better scope placement. Something you will learn the hard way if you use just rings. I have had so many problems using just rings on all of my .22's I finally gave up and went to the rail system.

Unfortunately, I think would use more than $5 of gas just going to X-Ring :(
Also, I needed it that day so it could cure for 24 hours before going to the range. Oh yeah, don't forget the loctite sets in about 10 minutes and takes 24 hours to cure.

If you have problems with the scope moving inside the rings you may also want to try a product by 3M called Scotchkote, it is made for electrical connections to help waterproof them and can be found in the electrical dept of any hardware store. I have used the stuff on the scope ring for my RWS pellet gun and it works great. Scope creep inside the rings on that type of gun is a very common problem and i tried a few different things before hearing about the scotchkote and that has worked like a charm. Just a thought. i cant imagine you would have that problem on a .22 though since it wont have nearly the recoil.
