Title: 20ga chokes
Post by: aaronc5362 on November 20, 2020, 08:22:19 AM
Hi , i was hoping anyone could answer this.

So i was looking through my parts bin and found a modified choke for my rem 870 20ga. Ive shot foster slugs out of the improved cylinder that i have on now before without issue. I only bought the improved cylinder choke. Im surprised remington sold the shotgun with a modified choke. I assumed way back when it was a cylinder bore choke.

I also bought 20ga brenneke magnum silver slugs 1 oz. (not crush or the other gold plated or black plated slugs) from sechawaii a couple weeks ago.

Has anyone ever shot a foster slug or brenneke slug through a modified choke? Is it safe? Lol.

More concerned bout brenneke slugs. Idk if they are hollow on the inside like foster slugs. I seen plenty of vids of people shooting foster slugs througj full chokes.

I called brenneke but the lady couldnt help me. Some customer service that is. Lol. On their website it says any slugs with the exception of crush and other colorful slugs can be shot with any choke. I know the ribs are meant to collapse through stricter chokes. But idk.

Thanks in advance

If this advice is accurate it seems like you could but it might wear on the gun quicker.

I just got an over under and I didn't think about this until you posted it. Never shot slugs out of it yet but probably wont now that I read about it.

Interestinf read. Never seen that before. I usually go to youtube as i can see real live demonstrations lol.

What kind of over under did ya get? I was lookin at some cz and double defense since i saw them at sechawaii a couple weeks ago. Ended up getting a glock loll. Full 180 on my part.

Btw, the over under you got, have screw in chokes or fixed or just cylinder bore?

I got a ruger red label. Mine doesn't have removable chokes.
