Title: 9mm "Heads"
Post by: Rocky on December 17, 2020, 03:26:30 PM
A "friend " of mine was looking for 9mm heads and found none (reasonably) available at most sites.
Found 124gr RPFMJ at
EvergladesAmmo.com
Still got more in 500-1k lots
FREE SHIPPING !  :D
Even called him to make sure the Hawaiian address with all of the vowels was correct and said it would go out UPS tomorrow.

Cabelas also has free shipping.  Their stock can be hit or miss though.

MidwayUSA has coupons for free shipping here and there.  Have been picking up .308 heads.  Waiting for some Berger boolits to come back in stock.  They have some now, but not the ones I'm looking for.

SNS Casting's website currently says "Down for Maintenance . . .  force to stop taking orders until January 2nd . . . still running a short crew to get more bullets on the shelf". I saw the same thing in November and checked back on the "until" date later that month. I was able to order (and received) a case of 4000, red 115 grain round nose coated bullets for $260.00 shipping included.

Everglades ammo is one of my go to sites for heads
Seem to be consistent heads, shipping is pretty quick.
Small operation. Packaging is usually in a plastic bag, sometimes in a cardboard box, with bubble wrap and taped up good.
Good stuff 👍👍

I thought they just ended free ship.  Do they not ship anymore, even if you pay?

I picked up some Xtreme heads from Cabelas and free ship.  I check back occasionally since they seem to run out of stock quickly.

So far I have had pretty good luck with the 9mm heads I have been getting from X-Treme. They even look like they are better quality than some of the others I have been trying. I might just try some 45’s when my stock starts to get low.

I just saw that - Hawaii is not in the list of states.  I don't understand why as other bullet manufacturers mail it via a flat rate box.   ???

Xtreme running 10% off 500 packs.  Gotta "work" the shipping issue though.  A friend is having it shipped free to someone in the 48, and then USPS flat rate to HI.

Ended free ship in November.
She did work out the "other" shipping options and when I heard gasp I kinda knew.
When she told me the cost I started laughing and so did she.

His shipment arrived in Honolulu 9:15 pm last night.
Less than 72 hrs from Florida.

SNS has bullets in stock for sale . . . prices went up, 9mm 115 Gr RN coated bullets , case of 4000 @ $288.00 shipping included. This past November they sold out in less than a day.

i have "a friend" who ordered from bayou bullets the day after election day
the website said that they are making heads as fast as they can, and they do not plan to raise prices as of yet
stated that wait time will be 8-12 weeks, and asked for patience and for people to be aware of the wait and to not cancel order
warned that they may have to raise prices if people cancel...

my friend ordered 2 bulk packs of 3300 135gr 9mm

unfortunately, i still own no firearms, ammo, nor reloading components...

I’m currently testing 115gr RN powder coated bullets from DG Bullets. Their quality is good and they work well in all my guns and my nephew’s guns. I am using Green Dot powder with these and I am seeing good results. I tried Red Dot, Bullseye, Titegroup and Unique as well. And the Green Dot loads also work well in my Glock 17.

The last batch of XTreme 124gr FMJ’s I ordered arrived yesterday and were shipped UPS. Until yesterday’s order they always shipped them USPS. I wonder why the difference in shipping? I assume it is more expensive to send them UPS.

Also, I have ordered from a company called Sages Reloading. Unfortunately, they have been hit hard by the shortages. But when they get in XTreme Bullets they package them up VERY well and ship them USPS. I would expect that they will ship to HI. You might want to check their website regularly and maybe join their FB page. They announce when they get new shipments in on their FB page. Their prices are usually very good. I have also bought Hornady and Nosler bulk bullets from them in 224 and 308 at terrific prices.

Cabelas had some good pricing and decent packing.  There was about 50 rounds that spilled out of the boxes, but all good.  At least was free shipping and delivered in a timely fashion.  I don't really "need" the boolits right now, so I can wait and shop around.

I found a set on Ebay for about $80.  I also got a factory crimp die on Ebay for about $40.  I know I got ripped off, but cant find anywhere else.  and probably don't need the factory crimp, I just like to have it just in case, and the Lee is also a resizer so that's a plus

I can donate some brass if ya need.

thanks, i'll let you know.  i ordered 500 used range brass and i'll have the brass from the ammo i bought.  that might be enough for now but i'll let you know if i need any more.   :shaka:

Thank you for the offer. I really appreciate it🤙
But I think I'll be ok on ammo
I'm slowly finding ammo and components here and there. Buying and trading with what I can find through different avenues
I'm finding that the 2A community is very helpful during these hard times. Gun people are some of the nicest, respectful, and genuine people that I know  :worship:

So I emailed them stating the above and finally got a reply that they have switched to UPS and no longer use USPS.  Must be nice to not need our business.

Prolly why they still have stock as UPS is more expensive across the board when compared with USPS flat rate boxes.

I hate when companies do that.  Seems like lots do that though.  I have a bunch of shooting friends in AK and they face similar issues as we do.   :(

Found some bulk 9mm FMJ from Midsouth Shooting Supplies:

https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/00130aa9115fmj/9mm-point355-diameter-115-grain-fmj-1-and-000-count

They are 12 cents a piece. Not a bad price. Not a great price but these are FMJ’s and not plated. I have ordered from these guys before but not when I was living on island. So I can recommend them but I don’t know if they ship to Hawaii or not. Also, I have not used these particular bullets before.

They also have range brass at a going rate price. Not great but it is what it is:

https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/003559mmofb500/9mm-once-fired-range-brass-raw-approximately-500-pieces

They are 6 cents a piece.

And they have shorted me and gave me some nickel plated brass in with the regular brass a couple of times but their CS sent me replacements right away.

Never dealt with Everglades before but I am sure they will make things right with you.

Funny story about Capital Cartridge. One day after I placed a pretty large order they sent me an email that the brass they are sending me is “Extra dirty”. I told them it is okay. Well, I got the brass and it was so dirty I had to decap them first using my Universal Decapping Die before I washed them. I used dishwashing soap to wash them. Then I dried them and then I ran them through my sizing die. Then I put them in my ultrasonic cleaner and dried them and then polished them. I have never seen brass so dirty before.   It was extra work but no one else had brass at that time.

I'm thinking of firing up my progressive and pumping out a bunch of 9mm and 45.  What website has the best prices per bullet?

I'm looking for something that is either coated or plated.  I don't mind jacketed, but those bullets tend to be more expensive.

I'm planning on buying in bulk (probably 3,000 or more projectiles).

Warning if you're ordering from Cabelas.  A buddy and I put in orders prior end of Dec and still hasn't shipped.  I had bought a bunch of stuff leading up to Christmas and shipped quickly and arrived quick.  He ordered a bunch of brass and I ordered other random reloading things.  Been almost 2 weeks and not a peep.

They had some 124 9 mm Xtreme heads in stock during that time too.  I was going to order more, but I prioritized on other things.

I reloaded my first batch of 9mm FMJ 124 grain version 2 which means its heavy plated
I have 3 different powder weights, all within the recipe from Hodgdon website using titegroup.  we'll see which one works best in my pistol.  now just gotta get the pistol   :shaka:

almost done reloading when the power goes out
but I have an LED lantern and my car jumper battery which has an AC outlet that I used for my powder dispenser so I could finish the reloading.   :shaka:

I stumbled into some titegroup a few years ago and I've been using it in my 45 ever since.
It's ok but I don't think it's as good as some otheŕ powders.
Anybody experience outstanding results with TG?

The thing you've got to watch out for is the c.o.l. and the crimp.  Without the pistol barrel in hand you can't do a "plunk test" on your newly loaded rounds to see if they will chamber properly.  Hopefully, all will go well with your reloads when you pick up your 9mm. :shaka:

When I started loading a new bullet for my .45 acp I had to adjust the crimp die a half dozen times before I got a satisfactory profile.  Then I found I was getting signs of high pressure from my 625 (flattened primers), so I backed off a half grain of Unique and all has been well for the last 600 rounds or so.

Glock barrels are so loose you can fit a small dog in there.

Might get messy though.
