For anyone who is interested. I found this on the Desertsharpshooters web site. This article explains the basics in a NRA across the course match. This is very similar to what we do at Puuloa when we shoot service/highpower rifle matches.

I recently tried this out with my newly acquired Garand. It was very fun and challenging. I will be doing more matches and trying to get better.
I also want to get into Highpower prone in addition to F-class, which is why I built my target rifle in the first place.

Practice match this Saturday from what I heard.

Also, on the last page. An article by German Salazar on prone position.

German's blog has a wealth of information.
Learned tons from reading his stuff.

Go through it, especially the info on reloading, you won't be sorry.

Looking at this, and at the course of fire posted on the Puuloa site, I'm struck by one thing in particular: Rapid fire, 10 shots in 60/70 seconds, starting from standing and assuming sitting/prone position. Shooting a scoped bolt action with a fixed magazine (like a m1903a4, for example), that seems darned close to impossible. How do you manage the reload?

Nope, very possible and many do it. It just takes some practice. :) Actually the older timed matches where 50/60 seconds for semi autos and 60/70 where when bolt guns where being used. They eventually standardized with 60/70 second rules.
Scoped rifles are relegated to F-class shooting, all done prone and slow fire.
The m1903a4 would be loaded via the stripper clip. Other types of rifles with detachable magazines or garand are usually loaded with two rounds first,on an empty chamber, get into position, rack a round, shot, then loaded with a mag with 8 rounds to complete the stage.
Timing and cadence ensure all rounds are well aimed shots, not spray and pray action, and guys that are well practiced can 'clean' the targets. :o
Not me though...

Ok, no rapid fire with scoped rifles. In that case, I believe you!
