KHON2 is doing a online poll asking.... Should the Honolulu Police Department be allowed to delete comments from its Facebook page?
Its in response to the suite that chris brought up against the HPD.

Voted. Thanks Chris for all that you and HDF do. Gun or Anti-Gun, I'm surprised that the online poll is showing slightly in favor of "yes" at this time. I guess locals are that dumb.

I guess locals are that dumb.
I wouldn't say dumb as much as mislead, although I remember some pretty thick heads growing up.

Didn't figure it was appropiate for me, a mainlander, to vote for restoring the posts/comments, but Chris' point about it being paid for by public taxes and hence owned by the public sure seems valid to me.
I can see them deleting salacious or X-rated verbiage (after all, even minors can read it, I guess), but deleting or censoring something just because someone challenges a government entity's position is sort of ohhh, let's just say, "out of bounds" instead of "tyrannical."
However, since they were deleted, I guess I can't read the Baker posts to make a call on that part of it.
I reckon Mr. Baker is on their s-list for suing for his gun rights, so I guess that explains a lot. The situation, as reported, seems to practically define the term "petty bureaucrat."

Terry you're a mainlander, but you've been around so long you might as well be my neighbor. lol.

Just voted. Right now it sits 52% yes and 48% no.

For your consideration:
1. The Honolulu Police Department ("HPD") is a governmental agency.
2. The "About" section on the Honolulu Police Department's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/honolulu.police (https://www.facebook.com/honolulu.police)) reads, "Government Organization. This is the official Facebook page of the Honolulu Police Department."
3. When clicking on the "Terms" hyperlink at the bottom of the HPD Facebook page, viewer is redirected to another page that includes a hyperlink to Facebook's "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities." Below the "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities" hyperlink is a statement that reads, "Terms you agree to when you use Facebook."
4. When clicking on the "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities" hyperlink, viewer is redirected to another Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/legal/terms (http://www.facebook.com/legal/terms)), titled, "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities."
5. Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities includes Section 5, titled, "Protecting Other People's Rights." Section 5 reads, "We respect other people's rights, and expect you to do the same." Subsection 5.1 reads, "You will not post content or take any action on Facebook that infringes or violates someone else's rights or otherwise violates the law."
6. Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities includes Section 19, titled, "Other." Subsection 19.11 reads, "You will comply with all applicable laws when using or accessing Facebook."
So... the actions by HPD (a government agency) to delete posts on HPD's officially-endorsed Facebook page may be viewed not only as a violation of Facebook's Ts & Cs, but may also (and more importantly), be viewed as an infringement of Funtime's freedom of speech, as protected by the First Amendment.

I voted a few times on this poll. The majority seems to be just out of reach each time.

Part of HPD's "damage control" post, apparently attempting to clarify their moderation policy:
Sharing your experiences with us, either good or bad, is encouraged. However, misrepresentations calculated to harm the reputation of the HPD, or others, are considered defamatory and will be deleted as a violation of the posting guidelines.
They openly state that they encourage public discourse on their Facebook page, then go on to state that they'll remove anything they consider "defamatory". Too bad you can't defame the government. And I don't mean you're not allowed to defame the government, I mean that it's not possible to defame the government. What they really mean is, "We encourage you to share your experiences with us, unless we feel like your experience is emabarassing to us, in which case we'll censor your comment and disallow you from engaging in further discourse."

True story.

Poll seems rigged. They don't display the amount of votes, just the percentage, and the percentage hasn't moved (for me).
-
Yeah every time i reload the page the percentage seems kinda off. Every vote only moves the thing .1 though.
And if im not mistaken, by my research, i think we caught up. Just need to keep it ahead now.

47.6 yes, 52.4 no

Check the complaint, exhibits 1 and um 2 or 3.. Anyways, all the posts are in the exhibits in their entirety.

Yep voted. Also looked over the complaint... Looks to me like the are getting into political censorship to me. Also, the story kind of makes HDF out to be anti police. The misinformed public needs to know that HDF is not anti HPD, but just anti rights infringment.
