Aloha,
Just wanted to get clarification from the posts I’ve been reading about. My father-in-law is gifting some rifles to us and they’re registered on Maui. I’ll be taking them to Oahu to register under me. Does he/we need to inform MPD of the “sell”, Oahu and Maui, or just Oahu?
From what I’ve read he just has to inform HPD that he has “sold” the gun to me and I should be okay to register. Just want to make sure that I don’t bring the rifles back to Oahu and end up having to bring them back to Maui to get them registered under me.
And yes, I already have a long rifle permit and registration appointment for HPD. Mahalo!

Honestly i would just call Maui PD. 1 phone call vs a citation or whatever. In another thread someone mentioned he had to notify hpd he was taking the guns to the mainland othereise would be fined , or something along those lines.

Yes, your father-in-law will need to notify MPD of the transfer.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it. I’ll give be giving MPD and HPD a call to get best info but figured I’d ask to see if people have already had experience with it.
I’ll update this thread when I can with updates for those looking for similar answers in the future.

Fly to Maui & register them then fly back with them.
Or you could FFL transfer them so it's recorded.

For those in the future, all I needed to register was the original permits of each rifle. Website says name, address, phone number of seller/transferor but they didn’t ask for that info or they could have pulled the info elsewhere for all I know.
