Title: Powders/Bullets/Reloading supplies
Post by: bushmasta55 on June 04, 2021, 11:47:49 PM
Aloha gang I been researching and about to start reloading.  How difficult is it to source power locally? And if so who carries power and reloading supplies.  Looking to reload 30-06 (M1Garand), 308WIN, and 223/556.   I have been reading about reloading 556 about the primers. Any advice would be great.

Mahalo in advance!

Powder is in short supply right now.  You can post a WTB ad to see if anyone is willing to sell you some powder.  For the M1 - Varget, H/IMR 4895 or 4064 are popular choices.  For auto loading rifles, you should always full-length size your brass.

Locally, my first choice is Security Equipment Corp. I was at SEC on Friday and their powder shelves were about two-thirds empty (or one-third full), and no primers. You should go down to SEC or give them a call and put your name on the list for the powder and primers you want. It may take months, but they are great at notifying you when your request is in stock and will hold it for you for about a week. You can also check out Young Guns, Prime Sports and WGS. Even the online sources show "no stock" on powders and primers.

WGS told me  they have a business agreement  with Bushido that gives them first dibs on all primers and powders coming into their store and they cannot even get enough to supply them.

I recently got started in reloading for .308 as well, and I want to eventually start 30-06 for a Garand and 1903.  So similar boats.  For powders, I would check with SEC first.  I think they had a steady supply of IMR and Hodgdon powders for a while, but I haven't been there in a few weeks.  dogman chimed in above for an update.  I've been able to find what have become my favorites for .308 on a somewhat regular basis here (Varget, 8208, and 4064).  There are others that I want to try, but I think I'll be good for a while with the ones I have on hand.

Primers has been a different story.  I've been able to find large rifle (regular and magnum) here and there.  Small rifle on the other hand have been near impossible to find.
