Title: pistol laser trainer thing
Post by: fro on August 27, 2012, 11:59:11 PM
Has anyone tried this? On cheaperthandirt-butwellrapeyouonshipping , it claims to sit in your barrel and produce a red dot down range when you pull the trigger.

I have a SIRT from Next Level.  I think it's pretty good as a training aid.  Not sure if we're talking about the same thing as you could be referring to a SIRT bolt which is a drop in for an AR platform.

No.

SIRT pistol has the look, dimensions, and feel of a real Glock down to the weighted mags and trigger reset.  It would be nice if somehow they could have gotten the slide to move, but it doesn't.

Anyhow, when you stage the pistol you see an upper laser.  When you break the trigger it shows a secondary laser.  You can tell when a student gets on the trigger, when they break the trigger, if they properly reset the trigger.  By asking the student if they can see the secondary (lower) laser you can tell if they are un/conciously peeking at the target.  Really the only thing the SIRT lacks is the slide moving.

i have the

and use it with the
http://www.laserlyte.com/products/lt-pro (http://www.laserlyte.com/products/lt-pro)

good training toy, but very expensive (could buy a lot of ammo with that money)
biggest hassle is you have to take both apart and remove batteries to prevent battery drain and to prevent acid leakage from ruining them

My son got one and it's fairly impressive for its feedback in point-shooting.  If it was accurate, I seemed to be "shooting " at the clock on the wall at his house a little bit low.  (All safety precautions excercised, of course.)

I'm frankly toying with the idea of getting one.

I used to practice a lot with various airsoft-ey guns in my apartment, but the recently-moved-in tenants next door to me are almost always home.  I suspect even the slight repeating noise of an airsoft would "alert" them, so this seems to be a viable extra option.

Yes, but I'm practicing point-shooting with a clone of my winter carry gun --a 1911 --including the draw, not just punching paper.  You can't carry a powder-actuated suppressed handgun around on the streets for SD purposes, just as a practical matter.

I have regular Crimson Trace laser sights on both of my usual carry guns (1911 winter, J-frame summer), and I do practice with both of those about three yards from a large mirror --insert safety disclaimer here. That puts the target image --of me --six yards away.

Using the mirror lets me practice my "mean face," too.  (Jaw jutted, lips compressed, frown.)

Keep practicing until you outdraw the guy in the mirror.

^ Heh.  I already do, by about 0.00000002 seconds.

(About six meters distance divided by 300,000,000 meters per second for the speed of light.)

If you have a glock you could get this kit plus the "magic bullet"

I was gonna get one but it's pretty expensive

Noptel and Scatt are proven and they offer traces up to and after the shot.

The SCATT MX02 allows the shooter to shoot live fire and it will still analyze the shot.

The downside for Chinese guy like me is that it is $1800, though it is a very powerful tool.

If you ever are on maui. Maui ammo and gun supply has a TiTraining simulator. Uses real glock pistols with a replacement barrel that shoots ir laser on to a screen. Its interactive and only uses 12 gram c02 cartridges. Lots of different scenarios. Home intruder, school shooting, etc. With multiple ways each situation can pan out. They have skill builder scenarios. And fun shooting stuff like cowboy stuff. Modern stuff. Shooting in the back yard, etc. http://www.titraining.com/ (http://www.titraining.com/)

I have this..
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0089GEP76/?tag=2ahawaii-20 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0089GEP76/?tag=2ahawaii-20)

I like these because you can get adapter rings for different calibers and you can replace the impact switch when it wears out.  Other brands, you must buy extra units per caliber, and switch is non replaceable.

IMO, it helped me improve my pistol shooting a lot.  Great to instill muscle memory of the trigger break and control.  Then when I go to the range for live fire, I can concentrate on not flinching with the noise and recoil of the live ammo. Since dry fire practicing with the laser cartridge I have consistently been able to keep shots on paper, and have moved away from blasting my target frame legs.. Lol  ;D

I've been thinking about getting this...

pretty cool simulator that works with PC and webcam.

not convinced I really need it yet. hehe

What I really like about these laser trainer cartridges is that you use it in the firearm you have; which teaches you the trigger pull of that particular gun.  Also, where these differ, and really shine from traditional dry fire, is you can visually see, when you break the shot, any slight movement of the gun.  Any trail of the laser, when the shot breaks, is an indication that one needs to work on trigger control. You can really tell the difference when pulling through a double action shot. :)
