Higher gas prices are good because that forces more people to buy EVs -- as long as you ignore
... cost of everything else also goes up
... most people can't afford to switch to an EV to save a few bucks per week on gas -- takes years to break even on costs.
... even OG hasn't switched, which means gas would have to be astronomical to get some of these keyboard activists to switch.
... the value of pre-owned gas powered vehicles would plummet, since nobody should be interested in buying used cars & trucks that are not electric. So, you have to add that loss into the break-even analysis.
... and so on ....
As in the 70s, higher gas prices cause the prices at the supermarket to skyrocket, because that's how most of the products arrive at the stores -- via trucks. Jack up the price of transportation, and the consumer pays more. The consumers always foot the bill on any price increases, no matter the cause.

Any good MBA student will tell you Inventory is lost income
and a waste of money. Static money is bad, you want stuff
moving in and out as fast as possible and nothing in the back lot
or warehouse.
The consumer is supposed to stockpile food and goods.

What I meant was if they don't have a stockpile to sell from, then me as the consumer will have nothing to buy. I hate to hear the words "Sold Out" when it is an item I wanted to buy. But just stockpiling and not selling in a retail business is poor economic sense, especially when it is a perishable commodity.

That’s the point of the video: the supermarkets’ future outlook on the profitability of meats is so bleak (due to future prices, availability from distributors, etc.), that they’re willing to lock in their prices now vs. later, even in the face of perishability.
The Just-In-Time delivery system previously mentioned is economically efficient, but it’s fragility has been greatly exposed due to government lockdowns. Any disruption in the supply chain causes downstream effects and uncertainty. 15 months of these downstream effects...IMO, end-consumers aren’t the only ones panicking.

I paid a visit to Safeway in Hawaii Kai on Friday, and noticed that Stouffer's fried chicken is out of stock, and so are other meat dishes from that maker. Not sure if there is something peculiar about that particular brand of frozen food, or whether we are seeing a repeat of food shortages similar to the Covid-19 supply problems last spring. Anyone notice similar issues in Kapolei or Aiea? Most of the junk brands of frozen pizza seem to be in oversupply.
