Title: Looking for some to my living trust/will etc.
Post by: Inspector on September 06, 2012, 10:37:40 AM
Hey Everyone,

I have been looking for someone to my living trust/will/medical directive etc. So far I have found lawyers willing to do it for $3k to $6.5k. I was hoping to find a local person who can do it for a little less than that. Not sure I want to do it online.

Anyone here know of someone reliable?

Anyone have any experience doing it online?

I have a couple of attorney friends that do estate planning and can ask them what their typical fees are if you'd like.

The price for the LegalZoom is going to be about $1300-$1500 for my situation. It appears kinda high for online but I have some unique things going on. So what did you think of doing it online? Did it come out okay? How much more work did you have to do because it was online compared to having an attorney do it for you?

I have a friend that works at state farm. I'm pretty sure they do that type of stuff.

I only paid $275 with a discount I found online, I also can edit it and they will send me the update free.  They sent me this 1" thick binder afterwards.

suzeorman.com you fill out online, and get it notarized. $29.95, just a suggestion.

Contact me via phone 808-722-6847. One of my gun attorneys does wills and trusts in CA, but is also a member of the hawaii bar, so we can probably work something out.

Did it come out okay?

In all honesty, you probably won't know whether the trust document came out "okay" until after you've expired, become incapacitated, or been adjudged incompetent... at which point it won't matter to you, much, anyway.

*EDIT*  My apologies, Inspector... my initial response was entirely unhelpful.  Like the previous, more-helpful responses, above, feel free to shoot me a PM if you are interested in a few recommendations.  It might also be good to identify your desired price range.

These documents contain mostly boiler plate verbiage.  However, your revocable living trust may require additional legalese since you indicated that you have some unique things going on.  I would recommend that you get an experienced trust attorney to draw up this document.  We used Rowen Young to draw up all our documents which I have subsequently modified on my own as our situation became less complex.

The liviing will, will, health care directive, and the power of attorney for health care decisions are boiler plate and only need names of persons who have authority to make decisions on your behalf and your expressed desire to pull the plug or not pull the plug.  These documents are pretty straight forward.
