Post by: ren on October 17, 2021, 06:30:12 PM
Contemplating a Vortex PST https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-viper-pst-gen-2-1-6x24-riflescope.html (https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-viper-pst-gen-2-1-6x24-riflescope.html)

anyone have one? How do you like it compared to an ACOG?

I don't have an ACOG to compare to, but the Viper PST Gen 2 seems pretty decent. I haven't played with it much, but it's got some heft to it and the magnification ring is a little tight to turn.

I personally like the red dot magnifier combo better.  Just picked up a eotech 5x.

Then again I'm more of a collector not active combat....

Acog - Pros (I have a TA-31)
Built like a tank tough
Small and compact
FOV @ 100 yds is phenomenal

Acog - Cons
Ridiculously close/unforgiving eye relief
Cost for x4 sight

Viper - Pros
Decent glass
Fairly forgiving eye relief

Viper - Cons
Size and weight
Smaller FOV @ 100 yds compared to ACOG

Similar perspective/experience.

I own Viper PST 4-16 and I think it's a great optic for the money.

I've shot with ACOG and I don't like the fixed 4x (at least of the versions I typically had access to), but I probably didn't give it a fair shake.  I considered a Viper PST Gen 2 1-6 when I started down the LPVO path, but I quickly ended up sliding down the slippy slope into the Razor and higher range.
