Mrluckygunner has a test for many rounds, but in just the gel.
Garand tbumb uses gel with bone and organs. Much diff results.
Long story short, in just gel many HP rds went thru 12-16inches in ballistics gel. In a dummy with stuff in it, many did not exit the torso. With exceptions of fragments here and there.

I like watching these type of testing videos. It's important to have the right ammo so it only impacts the bad person and no innocents around.
And of course practice, practice, practice because if you can't hit your intended target those innocents are in danger.

I would expect hollow points to penetrate quite a bit less with the addition of bones and organ since the petals are going to catch on stuff more than just straight gel. Seems like you see more realistic wound paths where the bullet veers off in a direction
Ideally you don't want a bullet to exit the body because that means there is still some energy that wasn't expended on the target.

You are correct. The reason behind minimum of 12 inches in bare gel (I think it was 12) was that the 12 inches was to account for bones, muscle , tissue etc. I forgot who said this but he also used 124g gdhp 9mm. First he did it in bare gel and got like 13 or 14 inches. Then explained what I kinda said above (if it makes sense) then he shot the same ammo into clothing, ribs, pork butt then clothing. The gdhp broke the ribs but also the petals broke away flying into different directiobs. It never passed through the last layer of clothing. Iirc it ended in the pork butt.
Then he went on and did a 223 or 556 round. I think it was a 55g soft point. Dont really remember . but the fmj passed through it all.
