Been out of the loop for a while and trying to get caught up on the new rules. Am I getting this right?
For pistols
1. Go to HPD and apply for PTA
2. Go online and get PTA emailed to you after waiting period
3. Print PTA and pick up pistol from LGS
4. Register pistol online
5. Pew pew
Rifles
Kind of the same but only applying for rifle permit instead of PTA every time
More pew pew
In the end, only have to go to HPD once?

Do we have any more information on step 2? The first page of the PTA is double-sided and has stamps and signatures on it. The LGS has to sign the back. I wonder how the LGS will detect that a document was forged? They might need an active link to HPD's servers to validate the PTA on the day of customer pistol pickup.

You still have to pick up the approved PTA for handgun from HPD.
Went to the LGS to pick up the pistol. After the 4473 was completed, He signed an dated the white copy then I did the same. Was told to take a picture of both side of the PTA to show to HPD. J Hara store kept the pink and white copy of the permit. Went back to HPD, showed them the permit photos and that was it. Everything after that was exactly the same as it’s always been. :shaka:

Hmmmm good question! I would err on the side of caution and call HPD. Personally I don’t see the seller keeping the white copy of the PTA for HPD. Probably different when the transfer involves an FFL. :shaka:

i went HPD last week to apply for PTA. they officer said just register online, no need go back
in person to apply for PTA only. email the PTA to me. pick up firearm. register online

I tried in good faith to reg my firearm online, but they emailed back saying I needed to drop the original permit to aquire off at Beretania or mail it in before they will register it.
There was nothing on their web page regarding this. Smh. Guess I'll just wait.

HPD website says:

I subsequently talked to the very helpful civilian clerk (Japanese gal) at HPD on the registration side, in person. She said that the buyer brings in the seller-signed PTA to HPD. implicit in this is that the buyer is going downtown to register in-person. I should add, in my case, it was a private sale.

I just saw on the news interview with Hifico this morning and they said only need to go hpd 1 time. And he did the registration himself online. Theres a conflict if information. Something is fucked up
What's the point of having online registration if we still need to go in person to file the paperwork? I smell something stink. Smells like bullshit

When I just checked HRS 134 online, it still says non-dealers still must present firearms to HPD for registration.
Looks like the paperwork is behind current requirements -- as usual.

just wondering, why did the LGS keep the white copy of the PTA? HPD website says that the buyer must present the original PTA to HPD when registering the firearm (if you're doing it the old school way I guess). signals are getting crossed here.

HPD website for not on-line firearms registration says you need "your original firearms permit" when you register your firearm.
does that count as being "in writing"?
on-line firearms registration is as clear as mud.

According to Hifico, the seller needs to send the signed pistol permit paperwork to hpd in 48 hours. They are usually on top of all the legal stuff

Hpd will also tell you to bring back your stripped lower after you build it to update the registration info, but that's not what the law is.
Couple other times they were dead wrong on info too. So I have a hard time believing what they say if it's not in writing.
Even when I had their instructions in writing and showed it to them, they still said I was wrong. Couple days later, turns out I was right

Just a FYI, there is no reg for tasers.
I spoke to a few people who say there is because HPD told them. 2 are an "informational briefing" instructor. 1 is a firearms "dealer", who's cousin is also HPD and told him there is reg.

she said no need go back to HPD with the signed PTA. the seller will send it in to HPD.
but take a pic of the signed PTA so you have the permit #, that you will need for the filling out of the online form
fill out everything on the online form, if you don't it will be invalid
you do everything correctly and fill everything out , just register online. no need go back to HPD :thumbsup:

its 0930, still no email. lunch time i'll call them. shouldn't have to wait all day for the email. or better i just pick it up in person, faster.

Tell them if the permit has been approved, they are looking at another lawsuit. Any unwarranted delay of your ability to pick up your new firearm can be construed as violating your 2A rights.
They have no excuse for failing to send it immediately upon approval.

I got my pistol permit emailed on the 26th. Printed it out and used it successfully on the 27th. No problems to report and online registration is submitted and pending.

I notice they got the multiple long guns for 1 submittal working, online registration. last time I tried (April), it didn't work. has to be same seller/dealer.

YES, NOW you (the buyer) must bring the signed permit (handgun) or fill out the long gun form IF you are doing a PRIVATE PARTY (non-FFL) transaction. I'm actually not sure if you MUST bring the firearm in for inspection--I'll have to ask the next time I'm there (since things seem to change everytime).

My GUESS is that when they email you the PTA you will then need to use your personal password to access the document and print it out. If you send in an online registration HPD will email you a password (one that they've created) to access the document.

The username is your email. They also ask you security questions on the same form.

When I did my online handgun registration last month - when the registration was ready they first emailed me a password, then in a second email they sent the actual registration as a password protected .pdf

When the 14 day waiting period for the PTA came up, I went back to pick it up rather than chance more delay. Then went straight to the FFL for more paperwork and finally take possession of my new handgun. Registered it online the next morning as described previously.

So 4 business days. Waiting on the 3rd. Will see if it comes in the next couple of business days, and will email with permit number reference if I don't see anything.
Overall, liking the options we have for online, no firearm needed, etc thanks to HIFICO et al for work, advocacy, etc. :thumbsup:

Nah, but seriously, gotta go with what's best for you, which I think you do. I also appreciate the need to "scratch the itch" and get what's on your mind. I was like that, but for different guns or other things. Sometimes you just have to try or know for yourself. A while back, I had it in my mind I had to try an LMT monolithic railed AR. Special ordered via OGC and spent quite a bit. Tried it for a while, including in more than a few classes. Ended up going in a different direction for AR setups, but had to know.

Reg for #3 came in a couple of hours later.
These new options may (or will likely) end up with me buying more pistols.
Plus selling other pistols to friends who are now getting back into shooting. Win-win! :geekdanc:
