Has anybody ever been made to put “No local doctor” on one of the forms to get a PTA? I went in on the 1st to renew my permit, with no issues I filled out the form and went on my way. I came back a few days later to apply for a handgun permit and the officer behind the window asks me “is this doctor with Straub or Kaiser?” I was a little confused cuz I had never been asked that question before. Now mind you I am a typical male that hates going to the doctor and since my 18th birthday I’ve seen my primary physician maybe twice. Anyway I had a confused look on my face and I had to think for a second and before I could answer he rolls his eyes at me and asks me when was the last time I visited my Dr. I told him “idk” the last time I saw him. Another officer asks if I have seen him within three years and I said I don’t think so. They then made me put “no local doctor” on the paper. What does this mean? Has anyone else done this?

They only asked because they have specific forms for Kaiser and Straub which you need to sign authorizing release of your medical information. It's just one more form on top of the other medical release form you need to sign. Every other doctor or healthcare company is okay with the one form.
If you don't have a doctor under a healthcare plan, and you aren't currently under a doctor's care, then write "no local doctor". It means HPD has to rely on state mental health records alone to reject or approve your application for a permit.
No problema -- as long as you're being truthful.

Idk why theyre asking within 3 years, the law doesnt state that.
My pcp retired and i have no pcp currently. They didnt ask about 3 years, i just had to write "no current doctor" on the form.

Under doctors care? What does that mean? I only go to the doctor when I’m sick. Or got gout. 🤪

Do you use prescription meds for your gout?
If you need a doctor's prescription on a recurring basis, you're under a doctor's care even if you aren't actually "sick".
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Migraines
Skin problems
Anxiety
Any other chronic condition requiring prescription meds regularly
If you aren't being treated for anything and/or don't need prescription meds daily, then you probably aren't under a doctor's care.
