They know the gun narrative will be put on blast. KHON2 morning hasn't said anything while I was watching for about 45 mins. This should be top headlines and repeated every 15 mins. No need full story again, but repeated. But they did have a top headline repeat of the bon dance in Waipahu.

Japan's gear sucks. Agent has a leather holster with a revolver. I'll be he doesn't even have bullets in the gun. Their "SWAT" type of team has what looks like a EOD suit in bulkyness of bodyarmor. Really looks more like a kimono. They sure are hiding their mech army underground.

Biden already capitalized on how gun control works in Japan since this was their 1st event of the year, compared to the thousands in the USA. And of course he left out the culture difference and lack of people committing crimes in the USA compared to in Japan.

I was always amazed at the japanese police when I go to japan. A medium/smallish revolved and not much gear on their belts. I would have expected super awesome radios but they just looked big and bulky. They don't have to fire their guns very often and use force overall much less often I think so I guess the better gear is not a big necessity.

True. Im sure their budget doesnt allow for upgrades either. So use it until it breaks.

Read a three part history of the WWI Pacific war and run-up, was startling how often the Japanese upper levels of politicians and military used assassination before WWII to gain power.
Assassination is not, or was not, rare in Japan.

When my wife and I visited Japan in 2007 we stayed with our in-laws that were housed in Sagamihara, a US military installation. My SIL worked for Department of Defense and had a 5 year contract to work in Japan. She got to bring her useless out-of work husband with her.
They get to stay rent free and had COLA. All on the dime of me and you and countless Americans.....
Anyway I digress. I was going to say the Security for the "Base" is under the control of the Japanese government. So even though it's a US Installation the Japanese get to do the security.
So anyway entering into the base they will stop your vehicle and check your credentials (passports for me and wife) before you can enter. If there is a public bus that needs to enter the base they will stop the bus and 2 or 3 of these security "commandos" :rofl: will enter to check ID's and passports.
The security guards carried shotguns. It is slung over their shoulders but they are menacing looking things. The guards are very polite, smiling even as they go through what is an everyday normal procedure.
One day my SIL who can talk a little Japanese struck up a conversation with one of them. He smiled and shook his head and waved his hand.
She later told us that she asked him if the weapon is loaded. He smiled and said no. ;D
I wouldn't be surprised because the base is basically a residential facility but again, maybe he just said that to put her at ease.

That makes me wonder if the police who are carrying revolvers use the "Barney Fife" standard for ammo. Might explain the choice of weapon. :geekdanc: :thumbsup:
In a place as densely populated as Tokyo, it might be best to not have 2-3 cops trying to fire 15 rounds apiece among the hundreds of others near the suspect.

In a place as densely populated as Tokyo, it might be best to not have 2-3 cops trying to fire 15 rounds apiece among the hundreds of others near the suspect.
Also want to add that the shotguns the guards had were just plain run of the mill type with walnut stocks. I'll guess most likely they were basic Remington 870 shotguns.
Wanted to reinforce the previous comments about Japan's LE probably don't have the latest or the greatest but just basic stuff like others mentioned "run it till it breaks" mentality.
