IIRC people were arrested and convicted for some of these activities.

Makes better for the cameras if you let people in and they walk around like they're taking a tour.  This isn't the first time "stand down" orders were given (Portland Chief).

Not really in the ballpark of congressional investigations though. Not defending the behavior of the Jan 6 commission either
