Honolulu police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a man’s hand was allegedly cut off with a sword outside a Waikiki store.

Wonder if he ran away like Capt. Jack Sparrow
Wonder if now handless dude tried to take his jar of dirt

Sucks for the Swiss tourist. He will have a heck of a story to tell when he goes home.
Security guard in the area stated the 2 knew each other and has had problems before.
-
I'm inclined to believe possible self defense just cause the "victim" went to the person's place of employment. A sword is considered a deadly and dangerous weapon in the HRS.
-
I hope more of this story comes out. Would like to know what could possibly drive a man to bring a sword to work for a potential encounter.
He certainly didn't bring it for show and tell.

SSH FB page has the vid of the hand on the ground.

there's a homeless guy that I see at kapahulu 7-11 that carries a sword
I told the workers there that the guy has a sword, and they just laughed
ok. it's all fun and games until he cuts your hand off

Yep. I doubt they going laugh if that guy goes ballistic on them with the sword.
Wonder if the legislature will eventually work to have swords go through the PTA, rapback, and registration procedure.
HPD would love this. More officers can apply for the new swords division. Then they can take smoke break on the side of the bldg. every 15 minutes like that roly poly officer who is a d**khead.

Swords are already considered a "deadly or dangerous weapon". As it's primary purpose is to cause death or serious injury. A cane sword is excluded. But a machete on the other hand is legal to carry around and we have no laws banning them from being carried. Compared to NV that has a law specifically stating 1 cannot carry a machete. I don't remember if it was concealed or in general. NV also has a blade length law for concealed knives. But has constitutional open carry. Makes sense right?

Good example of why Red Flag Laws won't and don't work.
People don't report obviously dangerous situations to the Cops until a hand gets detached. How are they going to narc on their own family members?
What's next? Charging people who "should have known" and didn't Red Flag their family members as "enablers?"

Look at the 4th of July shooter. He waited 2 years until he decided to shoot up a parade. So even if he was red flagged, it would have expired by then.

No, but maybe it's because a lot of Hawaii people migrated over to Nevada and brought Hawaii's crazy mentality with them, LOL!!

more needs to be done to prevent sword violence
Proposal for a bill:
- rename the ATF to include swords ATFS
- serial numbers for all swords
- all sword makers will need an Federal Swords License
- HPD will administer the sword registration system: 14 days to acquire a sword; 5 days to reg
- define a short bladed sword

I was down there today and some friends wondering about the same homeless guy.
But according to the news it was the 7-11 employee

Ain’t nothing alleged. I saw the hand. Looked kinda fake. Sucks to be the dude who lost it but now he can qualify for D/D disability.
That should come in … handy
-
Handless guy is in an induced coma and has a lawyer already. He was last arrested in march for threatening someone with a knife a block from the 711.
So like i assume, crackhead doing bad stufd and the employee got tired of the states inaction.

Hope he told the guy “That’s not a knife. This is a knife.”

Heard the "victim" might lose other hand and multiple cuts to torso 3-4" deep! Whoa!!!

And I always thought it was those hotdogs they sell that could kill you!
