Obviously knowing what you can eat would be a bonus if you are running short on food. Not killing yourself eating anything you find is also plus good.
City prep had a shortie on Purslane, basically a weed that you can eat. I did find some growing in the yard and have since avoided mowing it over.

Or go Chinatown for "manapua".
Another good idea, if you're close assuming cars have been depleated of gas, is the pineapple fields. Just hope they're ripe.
