In many states, gratuitous welfare benefits have made that childhood fantasy an adult reality. Professor Casey Mulligan of the University of Chicago and I have found that some families can receive the annualized equivalent of a six-figure income with no one working – and you’re paying for it.
During the pandemic, idled workers received unemployment "bonuses" so high that many were pocketing more than twice what they had been making on the job. Even without these extra weekly payments, unemployment benefits can reach unexpected high levels in many states. In New Jersey, for instance, a family of four with no one working can receive unemployment benefits equivalent to a job paying over $96,000. That’s more than the median household earns in wages and benefits combined.

There was an article long ago of parents teaching their kids how to game the welfare system.
Instead of teaching their kids about becoming productive citizens they teach them how to become leaches like themselves.
And I'm sure these kids are now teaching their kids.........

Y'all know that is why income taxes were originally not
included in the Constitution?
Because the founders knew once the poor which outnumber
the producers, would use government to steal(tax)
the people that produce wealth to poverty..
Many poor are that way because of fate, We all should do
what we can for them, at OUR Discretion.
The ones I object to, are the ones that choose the route
to use government to force me to support them.
I name them Democrats, , Socialists, and Communists.

That rule presumed that only those with "skin in the game" should be allowed to elect our government officials. Otherwise, the risk existed that someone with no property could overtax and over regulate the producers.
Of course, this was also at a time when federal office was considered a part-time gig for people who spent the majority of the year operating their farms and businesses.
Now we have politicians willing to forego very lucrative careers in the law to take less as a Congress critter. Many make a lifetime career of it, and most are at least millionaires after one term in office.
We pay them nearly $200K plus for a salary, and they make even more on the side speaking and writing. They are treated like royalty, which is what the founding fathers tried to prevent.
A government big enough to provide everything you need is also big enough to take from you everything you have.

Your grasp of History is very good. You forgot, besides being a property owner you had to be 25 years or older.

Yes, voting ages were lowered mostly in response to the increased education levels of the general population.
Some places passed laws to require a demonstration of reading skills and political fact knowledge before being registered to vote, but that practice was often a ruse to exclude minorities. Even those who could pass the tests were denied the right based on some arbitrary, subjective opinion that they just didn't read well enough while others (Whites) who couldn't read but weren't required to take the test were registered.
Sort of like the arbitrary and subjective criteria used here for decades to deny 2A rights.

In this article, the state says that since social security payments are going up this month then welfare recipients can game the system.

Is it any mystery why the Dims want to lower the legal voting age to 16 while they already made the maximum age to be on your parents' medical insurance until age 26?
16 = old enough to elect our leaders
18-26 = too young to support themselves

I am sure you have heard this term before but I think it applies here as well.
Low information voter.
I would venture a minimum of 50 percent of the under 30 population would fall into this demographic. Indoctrination not education. Imo

People without meaningful work are much more likely to kill themselves. I’ve seen in with some techie friends. They make big money but don’t actually do anything productive and are completely miserable, and I think that’s why they fell head over heels for Branch Covidianism. It gave some purpose to their otherwise meaningless lives.

I'm a techie guy and I did lot's of neat things most people don't get to do.
I think you are referring to programmers and technicians that are in reality just laborers typing in/building, repairing, and testing what I designed.

I should have been more specific. Not the technicians that actually make things, but the tech company employees who spend all day pretending to work.

Unions slowed that process
Keck observatory did not tolerate them at all.
You ass would be gone in a day or a week.
They only wanted to hire PhD's, I'm blessed to have gotten in.
What has always confused me is why the "useless types"
get hired. I always figured Contract workers were best for
what you know is temporary work.
You build a core of competent workers, essential to your business
and hire/ release Contractors as you need them or don't.
FTEs are expensive to train and retain.
Contract employees not so much.
