Title: Noob CCW XP
Post by: changemyoil66 on January 09, 2023, 08:51:19 AM
I'll link this in the other thread since it relates.  These are things I noticed/XP when I first began to CCW in Vegas.  I only carried for 7-14 days a few times a year.  So I am not an expert, have years of CCW XP, or hold any credentials.

1) I noticed I would look in every mirror I pass to see if printing.  Very paranoid about it.

2) Darker shirts and patterns reduce printing greatly. Like compared to a white shirt or light blue.

3) Luckily, I didn't have to buy bigger pants because I already wear a 38, even though I'm a 32 due to my legs not fitting into a 32.

4) No more Abercrombie shirts (muscle/tight shirts)

5) Was very aware of printing, but as I carried it more, this feeling went away.

6) Walk/stand with your chest out.  Having a bigger chest helps keep the shirt on the top and allows it to drape over my waistband. Vs. hunching over and now the shirt will drape on the grip.

7) I wear an under tank for 2 reasons. 1) It helps chaffing, esp if you have a stipple or sandpaper like grip. 2) It keeps your main shirt up slightly longer when drawing 1 handed to clear the garment.  See below:

https://www.amazon.com/Hanes-ComfortSoft-Moisture-Wicking-Undershirts-Multipacks/dp/B0006U3ES4/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2D6JNVUSN61F5&keywords=hanes+tanks+for+men&qid=1673290093&sprefix=%2Caps%2C217&sr=8-6

8) Because I wear long shirts, if someone is MMA style straddling me, there is no way I can clear my shirt to grab my pistol.  So instead of trying and taking blows to the face, I have to maneuver until I can clear the shirt.

9) No one really is scanning hard except other 2a guys.  Even in Vegas casinos.  They def profile though.  So being Asian with no tactical beard and not wearing 5.11 clothing helps.

10) Moving the holster left or right 1/2 and inch helps release the pressure of 1 spot when carrying all day.

11) Everyone body type is diff, so you need to find your "sweet spot" when carrying. Whether it be at AIWB or 4 oclock, etc...

12) The claw helps.  No verdict on the wedge.

Thank you for sharing experience.  Some thoughts below:

Quote

2) Darker shirts and patterns reduce printing greatly. Like compared to a white shirt or light blue.
1) Add tendency to touch/check your ccw often.  I've noticed it myself and I think it can be partially subconscious.  Hopefully it's a "passing thing", but folks can notice.

2) Garment material also matters.  I like DryFit type shirts and those print like crazy.

Ok Mr. Swole. . .  ;D

Seriously though, belt types and material helps with "overall shape".

Forgot to add the biggest shitty part...taking a dump sucks. Gotta strap and unstrap everytime.  And being on a high protein diet, I take at least 2 dumps outside the home.

So I don't forget my gun, I leave it either in my underwear to hold or attached to the belt. I never leave it on the side on top the TP dispenser

And if you wear long boxer briefs where you cannot slide the boto out from the side of the leg, that's something to consider.  Like you gotta take boto out from the top, which means unstrapping again.

Much easier without the sidecar when appendix carrying.

Then add in more aggressive grips snags onto the dry fit materials easier than cotton.  The Shield Plus comes with a very aggressive grip, compared to the VP9, which isn't.
