Hi folks,
I'm getting a great shape S&W 686-1 soon and was wondering if anyone in HI makes custom wood grips out of Koa?
I was born and raised in HI but now live in NorCal (San Jose area)..... Can't find anyone who makes them out of Koa.... Even looked online...
Your thoughts please... I would even go as far as ordering blanks an sending them to a shop as a last resort...
Mahalos...

I provided Crystal with the stock 1911 rubber grips and Geoff made me beautiful Koa wood grips modeled after the stock ones. The grips weren't an EXACT fit, as the holes were slightly smaller and there was a step where the grips meet the frame so it didn't fit perfect without some work, but for someone that doesn't work with guns, I'd give them 5 out of 5 stars. They're located at the Outrigger Waikiki (think Duke's restaurant) and they're to the right of the escalators on ground level (opposite Seattle's Best coffee).
Tell them you seen the 1911 grips (as linked by fstbckgt) and that you'd like the same (I tried not to say "gun" around tourists in Waikiki).

Boy, that's a nicely-figured wood ! Never heard of it before. There's a flooring company right near me which may have some scraps I can make a knife handle out of.
