Anyone got the 411?

I heard not going open…the gun club does not have the funding to do required renovations.

Me thinks the trap and skeet ranges are going to way of the dodo….extinct…. :(

Sounds like a job for GoFundMe...

In the past the city paid for range repairs to the berms as needed including the silhouette range. If I remember correctly, corrections
and sheriffs department also used the same area for training. Will this part of the range remain shut down until the sihouette club foots the bill
for all users? It does seem like more explanations/answers are needed from the city. I am sure that knuckle head knudsen will try to embelish
himself accordingly as a good stool pidgeon should.

This is not right. I hope there will be a solution to open the trap, skeet, silhouette, and action bays in the future.

I hope I’m wrong but the costs for ballistic netting, lead remediation of the shot drop zones etc are prohibitive. There’s even talk about forbidding lead shot. Only option in shot small enough (#9, 8 and 8.5) for trap and skeet is steel which is very expensive. With the cliff face in back of the drop zone consisting of rock it seems that steel would become a ricochet hazard whereas lead will deform and fall off. I’ve looked at other ranges in the mainland that have had similar problems and closed down due to the costs involved. Hope I’m wrong….

Yes, doesn't seem to have a simple solution. Safety and expense not to mention liability are important concerns.
I hope the City is open to discussions as to how to reopen these bays. I don't know how the clubs feel about potentially shouldering more of the expense and liability to open these bays.
Maybe the idea of having an "adopt a range" membership drive would help defray costs. I dunno. Just a thought. So sad that these bays cannot open. I'm sure the enthusiasts that utilized them are bummed.
Maybe the first step is for the clubs to reach out to Rick.

I keep asking the RSO's about the silhouette side and nobody seems to really know anything about it
they say "closed indefinitely"

Maybe the biggest problem with the Silly Side is they would be breaking the new rules against steel targets by virtue of that range's very purpose..
if the powers that be found justification enough to ban steel from the rifle range, then it's reasonable to assume the Silly Side and Action Bays would need to have an exemption.
Just putting that out there.

why does kokohead ban steel targets when there is no evidence of ricochets?
all the time we've been shooting steel targets and nothing ever happened
I know doesn't make sense, it's all fear by politicians that know jack squat about firearms and have their own agenda
idk what we can do about it anyway
I'm probably just farting in the wind

[snipped]
It seems like our masters want to appease a small fraction of island residents by eliminating the steel targets. There have been a few suspected ricochets, and steel has been blamed by people like Catman.
It's not about evidence. It's about crying loud enough that the people in charge compromise just to shut you up!

The silhouette side should not allow steel. I was waiting one day by the entrance because all the bays were closed. RO said I need my glasses on due to ricochets. He then proceeded to show me samples of ricochets that they’ve recovered. Later that session he told my wife that if she wanted to watch she needed to have her glasses on at all times. Can’t see them opening if ricochets are a concern of the city.

Rephrase….bays were full of shooters on the silhouette not closed. I was outside and the RO said if I stand by the entrance I need to have my glasses on.

Still closed?
