Went to pick up my permit the other day, was told cash only even though there’s a sticker on the window of all the cards they supposedly accept. Didn’t have exact change so I was told to go to the shack shop to make change, surprise, snack shop was closed. Went back and asked if they could just keep the change at this point and they said nope exact change only. Wandered around for 10 mins asking strangers for change, I would have even let them keep the change but nobody carries cash anymore. Snack shop worker returned from lunch so I went in to buy something to make change.
Anyone else have a similar experience?

Were you picking up a license to carry or registering out of state firearms?

License to carry

License to carry
The debit/credit transactions on the Square registers that HPD has are forwarded to the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and then to the FBI. HPD would have to get a separate register that is somehow linked to the City and County Finance Division (?) if they wanted to process card transactions for people picking up license(s) to carry.
It’s easier and cheaper to tell people to just bring cash.

Did they explain why? Like CC machine broken, network down, or new policy?

It is the make it more difficult policy.

No explanation offered, I know they’re begrudgingly issuing out the permits as it is so I wasn’t about to ask and prolong the process longer than need be. I already had to wait 4 months. With nobody else in line they still took 45 mins to get my permit card to the window for pickup.
Moral of the story, bring exact amount in cash.

Next year you’ll have to bring the payment in specific denominations. $3 of the payment in coins, minted 1950-1999. $7 of the payment in bills, $1 bills aren’t accepted you can only pay with a $2 bill and a $5 bill. Just like vending machines the corners can’t be creased or wrinkled because they need to fit through the super small hole in their window. $10 is $10 but rules are rules.

This wouldn't surprise me one bit.
