Not sure what brands are the best or not? I have been using DPMS that I bought at X-Ring. I am very happy with the quality of the parts. However, I discovered such as you did that I can't stand the Milspec trigger. So I will not purchase another kit with a milspec trigger. What I found is you can buy parts kits that do not include the trigger parts so you can save a little money. Just make sure you have the ~$100-$250 for the trigger plus another $40 or so for the other lower parts kits that don't include triggers. Or you can buy the complete parts kit for around $65-$75 with the trigger parts and then wait for a better trigger to go on sale somewhere.

OGC has CMMG lower part kits right now.  I'd also say you can use a Daniel Defense or LWRC (and lots of others) lower parts kit as well.  Personally I'm not a fan of DPMS lpk's.

I always buy lower parts kits without the triggers.

I buy triggers separately.
