Is it legal if I just order a 14.5 inch stripped barrel and pin a fh to make it 16in myself?. Been looking for a 16 in dd barrel but everyones out of stock.

I think so.
As long as when assembled and operational, with the permanently pinned fs, the length is 16 or +.

Without going to get into the whole constructive possession debate...the short answer, is yes, it is legal. You need to make sure that the final measurement from muzzle (or end of muzzle device) to breach face is 16" or more and that it is permanently attached, meaning pinned and welded. Honestly though, I'd just have a shop attach the fh and be done with it.
**I'm sure you already know, but just in case...Loctite, silver solder, etc. do not count as permanent and a standard A2 FH will not make a 14.5" legal length.

as a shop I cant sell you a 14.5" barrel unless its pinned and welded. This is due to NFA rules.
Anything less than 16" is considered for pistol. So unless you have a registered Pistol for that barrel.
That is why on web sites it say NFA rules apply.
I have barrels on order from DD. They told me 2-3 Months last month.
Just got a email this morning 6-8 months......damn!

If I have a barrel 16+, would it still need to be pinned and welded?

Thanks for clearing that up, because I have seen the 10.5" barrel on the dd website and they will not send it to Hawaii.

shouldnt be. i have a Sig 556 that i got from OGC, and the flash suppressor is removable.

correct
you can remove f/h and still be legal as long as total is greater than 16

Okay, thanks for the replies. I was pretty sure that was the case but after reading this I started to get worried I was breaking the law or something. :shaka:
